It needs specific Honda or Acura power steering fluid. And yes, the Honda Odyssey does have leaks on the hoses and rack. I used to own one and it was at least $3,000 to fix these steering problems.
The one owner bought it for probably 28k out the door (because dealers negotiated back then) and it lasted 18 years…so $1700 initial capital investment per year.
They did OK. I shoot for $1000 a year but I buy cars after they've had two years depreciation.
It can be roadworthy for $500 plus scrap value. Likely the next dealer who picks it at auction for $1000 will pawn it off for 8k to some mark.
Those things are surprisingly quick considering. Ive outran many 90s trucks in a $100 odyssey. Haha too bad the transmissions are junk. Theyd be great vans otherwise.
The exhaust leak on the j35 engine is usually the flex pipe on the right side closest to the cat. The windshield is a cheap fix maybe a couple hundred bucks. The power steering issue on high mileage Honda’s is usually an o-ring on the plastic hose connection that s located at the top of the power steering pump. Many times I’ve seen folks about to replace the pump when it’s the o-ring sucking air and leaking fluid onto the ps belt and pump.
I bet you the 'do not use' is because the door rollers are junk and the door will literally fall out off the car if you open it. Its actually a very cheap and easy fix
Any leak in the system can draw in air after cool down and make noise, A poorly rebuilt pump will also give issues as these systems seem to be sensitive.
For a private buyer who gets a repair sheet from a local garage listing repair costs, this van is a good buy for someone who is pinching pennies and needs a way to work. It's not resale value, or Blue Book, or trade-in value that should be considered. It's the value to the buyer who doesn't have very much money and just needs a car for a year or two, and they don't care. My son hauls in junk cars and these are exactly what he takes to the "crusher" every day.
New number is 2 grand
I have the exact same van in white, just under 200k miles. Love it and it’s been incredibly reliable, but I maintain mine.
Is that last shot of the Odyssey in front of the draining room? I believe I know this van's fate.
Guy can’t pour worth a shit…..
Piece of crap every since day one.
Typical junk Honda

Change out the PS o-rings. Problem solved.

Send that one on to the auction. Let a buy here pay here dealer patch it up. Lol

Damn! That 90’s Honda exhaust sounds like it’s ready for the track!

The "stick" is called a hood prop.
The individual bill for each fix adds up but if u do it urself its ok
I'm sure the transmission is sht
How does air get in the power steering system??? You really dont know ANYTHING about cars mechanically…

A new Odyssey Ex starts at $43k.
That's a 43% increase in base price.
