compwiz878 says:

@mattkenny666123 yes all obd1 gm systems in all gm cars vans suvs and
trucks . but with the older dodge / crystler products all u need todo is
turn the key on/off 3 times on the with out starting the engine on the 3rd
time leave the key on then the powerloss or chk engine light will blink
just like the light on this saturn

You sound like CarQuestions…freaked me out

mikeferr13 says:

I did the same to my car but it only reads 1 2 for the system being
operational does that mean I have no problems or faults ? Because it
randomly turns on by itself when I’m driving then when I shut the vehicle
off and turn it back on its off

Great, Now teach us to hotwire a car lol

Just letting you know, there are some 1994 GMs that switched over to “OBD
1.5” in which case this wont work. I had a 94 Cavalier (late model it was
build in July of 94) that must have had OBD 1.5 because this trick wouldnt
work, but I could get the codes with a scanner.

onetirefire1 says:

JEDER
Code wird 3x hintereinander aufgeblinkt. Jetzt kommen die “wahren”
Fehlercodes. Genau beobachten und notieren! 7.: Jetzt einfach mit google
nach den Fehlern suchen. Z.B. “GM obd1 trouble codes” o.ä. suchen,
vielleicht mit Fzg., dann sollten passende Suchergebnisse dazu kommen.

I have a 1994 Buick LeSabre with this wacked out OBD system. GM made
changes throughout the 2 model years. You can have a 1994 that is either
OBDI compliant or OBDII compliant. There is supposed to be a sticker under
the hood saying which one it is, but mine is missing. On my car, even
though it has the OBDII style connector, I get an error code when I connect
my cheap code scanner. You can’t flash the codes like the old way either.
I’m going to have to invest in a better scanner.

astrosafari727 says:

I bought a scanner that works on these systems, Actron Super AutoScanner
model #CP-9145. It pulls the codes just fine, and yes, they are OBD2 codes.
I found the underhood sticker and it says OBD1 compliant. I got rid of the
car though. It was rusted out underneath so bad that I just didn’t want to
put any more money into it.

Hirocamaro says:

Yep my light just stays on no flashing

very nice explination jay 🙂

u look like gary numan

(germany translation for a friend of mine / deutsche Übersetzung) (Hallo
(1/2)

ihatecrackhead says:

that means you have an OBD 1.5. you will need a scan tool most likely. some
need a 10k ohm resistor from radioshack. probably from 94-95. if your
autoparts store cant read it for free, there is a good chance you have an
ALDL just like in 1993, but it uses a 8196 baud rate, for faster
communication, old baud rate is 160. and thats how fast it can send binary
data, or how fast it turns on and off the voltage. you make a cable and
download tunerpro, but you will need a UART RS232 port on a laptop

FastN Furious says:

lol i love how u soundin like one of those computer technitions that was
funny

sc0tte1 says:

That’s pretty awesome, is there any way to do this with an obdII system??
You’d think every computer would have a flashing feature like this…

mattkenny666123 says:

Will this work with different make of car

Josh Ketchum says:

Saturns have lots of cooling system electrical issues… I have fought a
few in my time. Good information Jay. Im a 20 year auto tech and everything
you said was 100% correct. Thats rare these days man bravo. The Marlboro
man may be dead… but some of us still fix all our own shit LOL (youtube
is full of know nothing girly men wearing jordache jeans fancy hair and
telling the world how little they know!)

Video-gamer-for-life says:

well that’s a cool trick, but I got one of those Comps..lol

ATCRyderX says:

@SeberHusky Thats a proper vehicle, therefore it should read it’s own codes
right on the digital Odometer. Its a simpl 7 click key dance on most
Chryslers of that generation. Theres plenty of quick tutorials here on
jewTube if u wanna look.

Beldar4214 says:

@crystalscan2002 An 03 Saturn would have an OBD2 system. Places like
Autozone, Advanced, O’Reileys will check that for free.

backyardjay says:

@HighTechRedNeck131 i belive 87 was obd 0, but if the plug looks like the
one in the video it should work.

Johnnyradionic says:

Did I read correctly (in one of your posts) that before OBD1 there was an
OBD0? I just purchased a too-sweet, granny-owned 1988 Cutlass (RWD). Which
OBD might this car have? (This is my first computerized car, so I really
have no idea as to what I’m doing.)

vham2441 says:

Hi there. I have a problem with My 94 caprice, I try doing the test with
the paper clip but the light never blinks, just stays on. My fan do kick
in. Any help?

lawnside82 says:

i love Google! saved me so many times.

Andy Atallah says:

your are the man 😀 thx from syria.

Stacie Lehoux says:

I did this and it worked… thanks for the video 🙂

HighTechRedNeck131 says:

Will this test work on a 87 s10 2.8 TBI?

backyardjay says:

OBD 1.5 This hybrid system was present on the H-body cars in 94-95, W-body
cars (Buick Regal,Chevrolet Lumina(’95 only),Chevrolet Monte Carlo(’95
only),Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme) in 94-95, L-body

Good Information

K31TH3R says:

I didn’t know this trick. This will be a life saver at some point, I know
it. Thanks for the awesome video.

Will Glazier says:

When i try this, as soon as i connect the jumper wire, i get a whirring fan
like sound from under ther hood. No codes are displayed, the SES and check
gauges light both stay illuminated with no flashing at all. The whirring
noise stops when i pull the jumper. Any thouggts?
