“The bad part about putting them on your shield is every time the shield
touches your hood it will etch a mark in that area and over time you will
have a dull mark on your hood where ever there is a bumper (due to dust or
dirt build up). It better to clean up a little sticky residue instead of a
paint job”
This is very true. The point of the bump stops is to stop paint rub which
would still occur if the stops were on the shield instead.
Thanks JP for that insightful answer.

Chris Clouse says:

I like this video but I have to question the bump stops. Why put them on
the hood? Why not the back of the bug shield so your not putting something
sticky on your paint?

Jamie Gollakner says:

I had a previous deflector crack on me which I decided on the AVS. I have
found that the rubber “plugs” are loose in the hood from the previous
plugs. Any advice??

John Scott says:

Jamie
I am guessing that this is on an older vehicle as the newer ones use
tape and clips. The rubber grommets are designed to mushroom out when the
screws are tightened, however, that said they don’t always hold tightly. Or
as tightly as we think they should. The problem I have seen in the past is
that they start to spin before you are able to get them tight enough. I am
guessing you would rather not replace your hood to fix this, so there are a
few ways to address this issue that are a bit less extreme. 1) I have
actually taken the screws and ran them through the grommet prior to install
which helps clear the thread and makes the screw turn easier placing less
torque on the rubber itself. 2) I have also used a product that NAPA Auto
Parts sells called the Right Stuff. I think it’s made by permatex. What I
did was started the screws as in the video, put a generous amount of the
Right Stuff on the grommet, pushed them into the holes just as if you were
installing it, let it set overnight and then tightened the screws. The
Right Stuff which is a high strength gasket sealer helps to hold the
grommet so it doesn’t spin. 3) The third method which is also useful is to
go to a hardware store and pick up some of those butterfly style screw sets
like what you would use to hang pictures and such on a drywall wall.
Finally #4. Go to a local Auto Parts store and grab a few of what are
called Nylon Body plugs. They are made by Balkamp. Here is a part# BK
6652435. This is only an example as I am not sure on the size you need but
they come in various diameters and lengths.
Hope this helps.
Happy Motoring

I put the bump stops for my 02 Grand Cherokee on the shield and it’s been
on there for 11 years and still going good. Plan to do the same with my 15
Tacoma. Thanks for the video guys, in my 02 I had to drill and use tape so
I wanted to see how it works with pre drilled holes in the hood. Answered
my questions!

HELP>>>>> I lost one of the (BLACK) push in fasteners to complete my bug
shield instillation on my 2014 Tacoma:{
Where can I find ore locally or can you send me another one??? PLEASE
Two came with the original package

Noogleminus says:

Installation on 2014 Tacoma was exactly as shown. I did lose one of the
plastic fasteners but Lowes had replacements.

What is the part number of the 3M protective tape that comes with it?
Every now and then I’m going to want to remove the shield and wash to keep
rust away. To reinstall I’ll want to pick up some of that tape.

Crappy video. Take your time and show how the screws actually go into the
rubber stoppers. His hands were in the way of everything. + your
instruction sheet sucks. just saying.

I just purchased a 2014 chevy Silverado double cab I orderd a hood proctor

Hi David, sorry we didn’t get back to you sooner. Here is the official word
from our AVS rep: “The bumpers are designed to stick to the hood. They are
removed easily if the shield needs to come off. The rubber bumper adhesive
will cause no damage to the paint.”

RealTruck.com says:

Hi Shirley, Although your 2013 Ford Escape does have new styling, from what
we can tell, the install will be very similar. You’re probably not the only
one wondering this, so please let us all know how your installation goes.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

hmm , would it be better to put the paint bumpers on the side of the bug
shield instead of the truck itself?

Does AVS make a bug shield for CJ7 Jeeps? Preferably with only the 3m
tape.. Would rather not drill more holes into him. 🙂

puttz1976 says:

I agree, I was wondering the same thing myself. I recently just got a 2012
Silverado in the same color, and I dont want to be sticking stuff to the
paint, especially if I dont like the shield. Did you ever get an answer?

shirley lynch says:

the video on view is not for a 2013 ford escape . I purchased the bug
protector for it and am leary of the installation. has anyone installed one
yet. It just came with the tape an 2 bump holders
