I want to thank you for walking me thru the no crank no start on my 2003
7.3 diesel, turned out to be the starter, which I checked like you showed
in the video. I replaced the starter and starter motor fuse which was blown
it cranked but would not start. I noticed that my glow plug light would
stay lit twice as long and their was a rapid ticking sound coming from the
injector module relay that I could not only hear I could feel, I found fuse
# 22 (eng control diesel only) blown, I replaced that and the truck
started. THANKS

Kyra Love says:

ok used two different starters bolt them in still no start.
loosen the bolts hit the key starter engages . tighten them down hit the
key and click no start.

abeeftec says:

What if it wont start and its not any of this? I have checked the
Solenoid to the battery terminal and my truck starts. I have loosened
by belt first to check for an A/C condenser and it wasn’t that.
I have checked the Neutral switch and it is aligned.

What the heck else can be stopping my truck from cranking by using the
key?

abeeftec says:

He doesn’t tell us what, “THIS END” is on the starter wire. OR does it
even matter which end it is?

abeeftec says:

I didn’t hear any clicking in the relay switch when he turned that key.
Especially over the ringing.

my 2002 ford E-350 7.3L powerstroke turbo Diesel is doing this no crank no
start, im having a problem finding the wire to my starter

Adam Sytek says:

Thanks I think this just saved me a lot of troubleshooting. Great Info!

Adam Bednarz says:

Thanks I’m planning on adding more videos in the future.

przepura says:

Fantastic systematic elimination of variables. I really appreciate the
diagnosis video. Have you possibly diagnosed CRANK, but no start with a
2004 6.0? My current issue. Thanks in advance for any response!

Adam Bednarz says:

I know that they dont cycle under some conditions but if the engine is cold
then I would start by checking for any chafed wires on the engine. There
are some common spots that the harness can rub on and eventually make
contact.

Larry Johnson says:

good info, would be nice if you could show people how to bypass the NSS if
needed. It’s a pain looking for the correct wires to connect if needed. I
actually am replacing one on a 87 E-150 C6 tranny tomorrow, had to order at
the parts store. Seems most don’t stock NSS’s.

Update: Re did my steps Adam, When doing the 10g test it wouldn’t crank.

Mark Hines says:

I’ll add another thanks to that. Starter just clicked. I changed it about a
month ago.Must have gotten a bad one. 2005 PSD

Josh says:

This video was a GIANT HELP! Cant thank you enough!

przepura says:

Thanks for the reply. Turns out my battery cables were loose on one
battery. Fires up right away, though now my injectors don’t always
pre-cycle before a start. Doubt it’s a FICM issue – it was replaced in
2011. Any thoughts on where to begin? Thanks in advance!

thebuzzcjc says:

I’m hoping this helps, I’ve got a 96 7.3 and the starter will just click
once 99% of the time. The other 1% it will actually start, but mostly not.
I have brand new batteries and a new Solenoid on the fender I replaced..
Runs fine, just doesn’t want to start..

Good video simple band informative ,nice job

Adam Bednarz says:

How many miles? I have worked on a few 6.0 I actually plan on making a
video on how to diagnose the 6.0’s with a app called torque. make sure
batteries are good because weak batteries wont crank it fast enough. check
for chafed wires on engine harness. possible bad ipr (pretty common),
possible broke/ leaking stc fitting on HPOP ( i think later 04 -07), maybe
FICM, also when cranking see how fast your oil pressure rises. I have seen
broken lifter damage the LPOP + 50 other things can go wrong

Adam Bednarz says:

If you jump it and nothing happens you basically just ruled out the NSS,
relay and ignition switch as the culprit. Have them test the starter at the
parts store.

this video just saved me so much time thanks adam your awesome

k kruger says:

Hi Adam, Thanks for the video, Saved me allot of time acting like Mr. Parts
swapper to fix this, I did as stated, Turned the key and nothing happened,
Turned the key about 5 times more and it started, Shut it off, No start
again, after 20 times turning the key it started again. Could this be just
the solenoid went bad? I cleaned all the connections, Its the original
starter by the way. Thanks for your help Adam.

thebuzzcjc says:

I also replaced all for of the batt. terminals., . The whole system would
click once. So I unbolted the starter and took it apart to inspect it,
looked ok as I could tell.. So I went to Advance Auto Parts and they bench
tested it and everything spun and told me it was 100% good. So I went back
home and out the old starter back on and the damn thing works now. I know
jack about working on cars, I believe the starter just got hung and
couldn’t spin out for one reason.. THANKS Awesome video’s too!

k kruger says:

Was the starter, Bought a DB Elect. and starts like brand new, Thanks again
for the help Video!

Adam Bednarz says:

If you cannot crank by turning the key I would diagnose why no crank before
checking the injection pump. On my truck if I put the ignition in the ON
position and jump the starter it will start and run (That’s how I was able
to move the truck around before cleaning the NSS). So leave key in ON
position and jump from solenoid. If it does not run I would check the
ignition switch first. Also when you turn the switch do you hear the fuel
pump turn on?

Adam Bednarz says:

Not sure about the vans. Do a google search to see if you can find a
electrical schematic for the starter relay and try testing it that way?

jcapen73 says:

I have a similar problem my truck 03 6.0 would not start no crank I
disconnect the batteries hooked them back up truck fired right up I can’t
get a code because computer rest any ideas

Adam Bednarz says:

Thanks for the feedback. I just added a video of a injector buzz test and
plan on making a video of the AutoEnginuity diagnostics program and also a
Android program called Torque that can be used to diagnose the 6.0
Powerstrokes. I just have to find time.

Jeffrey Lombard says:

I jumped it like you show in the video. Jumper wire from the male end of
the plug to the positive side of the battery and I get nothing. When I get
home today I will take the leads off the starter and give them a good
cleaning! Thank you so much and hope that this will work. Family Vacation
is coming up. Also I looked to see if I had a neutral safety switch and I
believe it’s in the transmission. I have a automatic.

Jeff Miracle says:

Thanks Adam. We replaced the starter solenoid for $20 and my sons truck
cranked right up. Your video made that possible!
