Yeah, I've never been a Ford fan, but I gotta say, my wife has a 2010 Mercury that has been a great vehicle, I keep the fluids changed regularly and so far it's had no issue, in my experience it usually starts with the electrical systems
So its a manual then? If not you need to hope the tranny has not milkshake(d) also. To avoid that of course one would simply delete the lines from the tranny to the rad and run the tranny lines to a separate tranny cooler. Its a good thing to do especially if the car is used fore towing or driven hardraced. Its a common FORD (FUCT) issue.
It's 50/50 on this engine. The milkshake causes a problem with the VVT system. The other kicker is these things are usually overheated by the time this happens. It's pandora's box.
Ive done this to 3 fords like this Haven't had a issue from them. I cleaned it out as much as i could and ran the engine after the repair. Warmed the engine fully and had the oil cap off to let the moisture vent out when it was evaporating. Took about 45 minutes runtime each car. Seems to work Timing chain waterpump with an internal weephole just makes me smh

Fill it with diesel and let it sit for about a week. Drain it and fill with cheap oil. Run for 50 miles and do fresh oil change.
I could believe it as soon as you said 2010 Ford Taurus.
Sounds more like a head gasket blown from overheated warped heads after driving 10 miles with a stuck closed thermostat.
I had to pay 400 bucks to replace a battery in my ford cmax… I am never buying another ford again
