How to Fix Non Working Odometer and Gear Selector Display – Chevy S10, Blazer, Silverado

Here is how you fix a non working odometer and gear selector display (PRND321). It is very simple, just remove the cluster and find a bad solder on the wire going to the odometer/gear selector display. (Most likely going to be the top wire/solder that is broken as shown in the video) This applies to 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 Chevy s10, Blazer, and Silverado trucks (Sonoma, Jimmy, Sierra).

Thanks. Looks like I could do that.

I’m having a similar issue with my truck. Some of the pins I have are bent over the board traces. Could that be part of the problem?

@user-lw8qy1yj3o says:

Thanks for the Video, I took mine a part all the solder look good so I cleaned the plug and socket with some Electric contact spray, and it works.

I bought a 01 Tahoe and same thing, idc about fixing it i just wanna see the mileage lol any way i can just get the miles?

Well thought out and presented. Of all the similar videos like this, I've never heard any narrator mention changing out the bulbs while he had the instrument cluster out. Seems like new bulbs would be brighter than those 20 year old bulbs. Besides being cheap (the bulbs) it's called preventive maintenance. Now go back in there and change out those bulbs 🙂

Thank you very much My name was doing exactly what yours was and I'm going to fix it now very helpful

The gears are still showing on my gauge cluster but the mileage is not. Is it possible that I’m having the same problem as you did in this video? I just don’t want to remove the dash if I don’t have to.

Excellent video!! Very informative!! I'm absolutely sure this will be an easy job for me to do now. Thanks for the video and Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

If the shift indicator light is off can this effect the transmission from shifting in to second? These things happened at the same time.

2001 chevy blazer 4.3 v6 LT 4WD. For me it was the main dash box connection under the glove box behind the black access panels. Use a 7mm socket or driver to tighten the connection box. There should be like a million wires running into it.

@majorkursk780 says:

You saved me a lot of money with your pointing out the bad connection on the circuit board. No one sells a replacement 1998 Blazer instrument cluster any longer. Being able to locate the problem with the bad solder connection and eliminating my blank odometer read out issue was incredibly helpful. Thank you very much! My instrument cluster is back working like it should!

@martinfernandonhs93 says:

I would recommend using the leaded solder just because it resists heat cycles better than the lead-free stuff.

^^ I disconnected the Temperature sending unit/temp sense, so How can I test the instrumentation temp gauge in my cars dash board by itself to check if its working correctly, what do I need to do?

@gregoryfuller9361 says:

Goodie….I can't wait. I just knew it was some bullshit like this . I think a pot hole finished mine off.

@raysellzeverything.9266 says:
