Raymond F. Pittam says:

My buddy just sold a really nice 1949 Cad. He was greatly surprised at the amount the Canadian's from VanCouver offered him. He said the man and woman came to his door cold Turkey and said a friend had told them about the car on social media and they called and ask if it was still available. He said he had three offer's but had turned them down. They exchanged information and he had not heard anything from them after for two weeks, He said he was sitting at the Breakfast table enjoying a Saturday morning late breakfast when people entered his fenced yard and knocked on his front door. He was greatly surprised because of his dogs, He answered the Door and the man introduced himself and they had a cup of coffee, They said they wanted to see the car. He showed it and not once was the price mentioned. The man said we stopped at the Bank and got this much cash, and laid it on the table. He said that was what he was willing to give for the car if it started and would take a satisfactory drive. My friend said he was afraid the car would not start because it had been weeks sense he had started it. But he did have a Hot Water warmer hooked in the Hot water heater water line. He said he went out and pumped the accelerator three times and it started right off. He said the car had never started that easy before. $5500.00 later the car pulled out of the yard on it's way to Canada. They had one flat tire and ended up buying tires all the way around but other wise had a great trip. ( Oh yes, They said they changed Oil on the route home.) My friend said he didn't even have a chance to make a spill about the car or the lowest he would take. He said he and his wife were ecstatic when the man laid the money on the table and they didn't even considering countering the price. He said he had almost doubled what he would have settled for . But he knew the car was a good sound car.

Parkhill says:

Our neighbor had a 54 in the 60's and he let us kids help rub-out the new lacquer paint. He was a car painter his whole life. Also died at 54 in 1978 when his liver quit working. Too much lacquer I guess. The 48 had an ugly grille. I'd cut the tail-lights and the roof off, and leave the rest for the next guy.
