My wife had to have this car. I’ll admit its nice looking, a nice ride and has neat dash and information panel. But since we bought this car used its been a money pit. In past had the headlight changed now have to again. We went for tranny. Now we’re fixing rear hub/ bearings. Everyone O k ow that has/had a CTS from ’04-07 burns some oil of course synthetic oil. $ never ends.

@ TMT Racing – I have an ’05 STS & I’ve had no problems other than getting to the lights & I too want an STS-V. That car is sick!!!

mourerj says:

see my comment below — think before you write nonsense like this. You’re clueless — a BMW Powertrain Engineer.

mourerj says:

See above — you’re completely ignorant for writing that without knowing squat of what your’re talking about.

mourerj says:

I’m an Engineer at BMW–bet you didn’t know that we use the GM-developed 5L40 automatic trans. in the 328i b/c GM makes the world’s best. Under-the-Hood organization (for propulsion engineering..) takes priority over easy light access(!). Also, GM had a loan that’s paid back, not a bail out. Finally the ATS is a better car in many, many ways than the 2013 3-Series—AND I WORK FOR BMW. Please know what you’re talking about before claiming GM’s many great Engineers are all morons

Yader Delgado says:

the worse cars for self service….they just designed them like that so you have to take your car to the dealers….assholes

Witold Duda says:

GM engineers are idiots.

unical2 says:

You don’t have to remove the bumper. Procedure may call for bumper removal but it’s actually not necessary. Just remove enough of the plastic push pins that secure the grille, etc., then gently pull the grill away to expose all 10mm bolts. Then remove the entire headlight assembly with a bit of maneuvering. Just be careful and it can be done without removing the entire bumper/grill assembly. I replaced both Xenon headlights this way due to condensation.

GM cars like Cadillac are junk , no wonder GM had to be bailed out. What kind of morons would make you take the bumper off to replace a bulb? What happens if you are out in the middle of Montana at night?

markd514 says:

Those engineers are complete idiots for doing that.

Phillips ballasts suck ass. Blowing already on 07 escalades…

IrishChris1979 says:

Yeah, that 10 years is just an average…Probably driving 10-12k miles a year too. 5 years isn’t bad at all. I never got more than 2 or 3 yrs out of regular halogen lights from my cars in the 90’s.

TMT RACING says:

it is a 2006 , so i got 5 yrs out of them ….Not to bad if you ask me..Also they are Bright as Hell…

IrishChris1979 says:

Hey at least H.I.D Bi Xenon headlamps have an “average” lifespan of 10+ years… A friend of mine still has his original HID xenon bulbs in his 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII which he purchased new! Those were one of the first HID’s too, the new projector HID’s are even better I’m sure.

TMT RACING says:

Thanks for the info Glenn ….You CAN get to the 2 bulb covers But the side is impossible without removing the bumper …..

glennus626 says:

I have an 07 cadillac cts which has a very similar headlight setup. You could do it by taking out the bumper or to get to the driver side bulb replacement: Take air box components out. Rear of headlight assembly and bulb cover can be reached if you don’ t have Sasquatch sized hands.

Passenger side headlight bulb replacement: Unbolt fuse box and move off to the side. Again, rear of headlight assembly and bulb cover can be reached if you don’ t have Sasquatch sized hands.

you didnt do good i got the hid bulbs the pair on e bay real cheap, and took it to a body shop and i did both of the for like 120 for everyhing,i have somegood videos here

KyleTraeCaswell says:

I have a 2006 DTS and had to pay 287.00 for the bulb and another 109.00 to have it installed. My bumper had to come off too. I asked the dealer why this was such a task to complete. They said since the bulbs are HID they made it so that your avg person will not mess with it. I think it’s BS that you have to do this procedure even if my turn signal or side marker goes out. Dealerships do not make their money by selling cars. They make it in the servicing. Think about this… If they made cars to

rex4x4 says:

holy crap ……. i missed the deadline to change mine when the bumper was off 🙁

Vespahipcat says:

I just bought mine and I have condensation inside the headlight. Looks like I am going to be taking the bumper off. Thank you for your post.

mr010tommy010 says:

are they bule at night, like the cts di 3.6??

TMT RACING says:

I would buy another one today if I had the money.
No problems in 15000 miles car has 60000
Want a sts-v

Vespahipcat says:

Have you had any major issues with your car besides the headlight?
Would you buy another given the chance? How many miles have you put on it?

ledneck says:
