Nice video but what about the field coils? This is where many old starters have issues.
I know I'm commenting on an old video but I just wanted to say that if I am to name one general thing I learned when working in a bike shop, it was to buy some old painter's brushes and to apply grease with them. Fingers are really bad for spreading the stuff and it's soo messy.

Lucas, the price of darkness. I have had several Lucas units in my shop over the years, sometimes you have to wonder what they were thinking while designing them. The M 50 is a good unit. I have heard the reason the English drink warm beer is because Lucas builds their refrigerators. Good video

just refitted one of these today into a boat with a Perkins4.108. If it had been as bad as this one I would have got rebuild or new copy for £70 uk. Not economic to do all of this except for the hobbyist with time to spare. Good demo of a very robust motor though

Graphite only on the starter bendix drive
I wouldn't grease the Bendix Drive… use graphite.

Note to Self: Test reassembled starter BEFORE reinstalling onto the engine AND BEFORE reinstalling engine into Land Rover.
