NordicBastard says:

Dober, if you invert your brake drum, place it back on the axle, and then
put your lug nuts back on partially, leaving a good-sized gap between them
and the drum, you can then use the brake drum as a make-shift slide hammer,
just pull it towards you letting it bang into the lug nuts. You can have
your axle out in less time than it takes to get the stupid slide hammer
installed. I did this on my 62 Cad, and the axle popped out in 5 taps,
less than a minute total (and most importantly, no damage to anything).

Curtis Chaney says:

@doberfag i needed this video and what good bearings you used???

Curtis Chaney says:

I got lucky on my 62 it came out without that i jus pulled it out with 5
light tapps of a hammer try it it might work

gliderp says:

Did those have C clips on the inner axle end?

19KILO74 says:

where ya find the T.V. anteena , kinda cool, Good luck with the axle ,I
did’nt have that much problem with mine last year when i exploded the rear
end ,a lil PB Blaster should help too.

johnsont963 says:

im gonna guess thats not a “c-clip” rear end.

doberfag says:

@19KILO74 flea bay for antenna..oldschool antenna for sure. just like i
remember it

doberfag says:

@gregmporter this is actually the way ya do these rear ends. factory manual
has a caddy tool similar to this listed a slide hammer, but the shit is 50
years old.ya see there is nothing to push onto to press it off.you can
pound it off if you pull rear end out and use mouting bolt hole after
removing pressed bolt and hammer a long punch against the hub from pumpkin
end but on car i have no room. this is not your typical gm rear end, this is
more like a ford rear end.

Greg's Garage says:

I’ve never seen a puller that uses a slide hammer. not surprised it broke
either. Acme thread and an impact seem like a better way to make the tool
work. I’ll be interested to see what you come up with.

cecil6711 says:

That sucks that the tool broke but it gives you a chance to engineer a
better tool to get the job done. Good luck.

kb1nyd says:

Nothing like time in the garage……well that is when it goes well. I hope
you can get it figured out brother!

ZIGgassedUP says:

Yeah Glen,I’ve had them in very tight too…

MrBlueroads says:

damn chinese bastards dont know nothing bout Cadillacs anyway.

Milton Watkins says:

Dude, my mechanic did 3 times before he got it right, leaked twice after he
put new set in, maybe cheap chinese bearings too, last set bought was from
the US and all good now, but using a that cheap device or even a proper
one, not sure I like that banging method, I made a very cheap, but bullet
proof puller, no welding just a bit of grinding and drilling, this device
had to pull a piston out of a lead smelting pot cold. Worked no hitting
