Steve Gilbert says:

Did it and 2 filters at the same time. Just had to undo one bolt to put air sensor back where it belonged. Couldn’t have done this job without this video, thanks! PS – normal width spark plug socket worked fine-

Steve Gilbert says:

This video is great- has given me the confidence to try to do it, thanks much. I have to buy quite a few tools and was wondering if it’s really necessary to use a 1/2” drive ratchet? What is it used for? Thanks again.

Staff Lead says:

I think they call that tool a PICK – not a LITTLE PRICK. But check that. Great Video Though!! Thank You.

John S says:

Didn’t see you check plug gap? Do they need to be gapped?

Brandon Harrell says:

Hey nicoya! I’m Glad i ran across u. Hixson bmw in monroe la is trying to charge me 1280 for all 6 spark plugs and ignition coils, 835 for a vanos selenoids and 380 for a programming. On my 2007-328!. I see i can do the spark plug/coils my self. So can u please tell my what Kind Of spark plugs/coils to get For the DIY .. and what i should do about the vanos solenoid and programming thank you!

toniko williams says:

I thought a fuel filter is replaced also with a tune up…is this true or not?

Nguyen Hoang says:

Thank you. The charged me @850 USD for tun up and replace 5 ignition coils. Next time I will do my self. Your video was very professional and clearly. By the way may I ask you a question. How come the luxury car like BMW, Mercedes ect drop price quicker than toyota, honda… on the market ?. Thanks again.

amer a3a2 says:

wow, much easier on mercedes. less exotic sockets, tools and things to remove.

Martin Rodriguez says:

THANK YOU!! This video helped out A LOT. I appreciate the step by step process

yoel arenas suarez says:

buen video muchas gracias

TheDXPower says:

Worked like a charm!

On mine, the frame bars over the top of the engine bay made it very difficult to take the #5 coil and plug out. I switched out the long extension for a shorter one and it made it much easier. For #6 (the one you had lots of trouble with), using two extensions made it super easy.

Leanne Brinton says:

Done!! Perfect! Thx so much!

Dillon Rust says:

Subscribed to your channel, you have made it possible for any proud owner of an E90 to become their own mechanic, and save $1,000's in the process. and for that sir I thank you. Keep the videos coming because as these cars continue to get older I am sure we will need to know how to do more repairs!

Mark Defendi says:

The reason we need a thinner spark plug socket is because for some stupid reason, BMW had made the coil 'manifold' in which the coils sit in, is not in line with the spark plug holes in the head.
the 'manifold is angled slightly downwards by a few degrees so the normal socket interferes with the inside wall if the 'manifold!
why have BMW done this? it dont make sense!
typical BMW being awkward again.

there is no technical reason why the coils are on the same axis as the spark plugs, what a bloody con innit?

Demetrius Hardison says:

I have a 2012 740Li. Is replacing the coil and spark plugs as easy as you make it look in this video?

Robert Vaughn says:

I keep blowing number 4 coil pack

Dario Qinami says:

Used this guide to take the engine bay covers off, didn't change spark plugs but this guide helped me to figure out my bad coil. Thank you for your video

Robert Garcia says:

Great video. Do you recommend the NGK over the Bosch soark plugs.

MrMikeYoutube says:

Snap on or gearwrench?

Lex O says:

So what is the measurement for the gap on the spark plugs? I ordered the same plugs however mine need to be gapped. I have a 2008 335i

Julie Western says:

Thanks so much for your VERY detailed video!! I have a 2006 525i I was having problems with idling. The car would jerk and shake anytime I stopped. I have 74,000 miles on my car so I figured it was time to change the plugs and coils. Success!!! My car runs awesome now!! Thanks for giving me the confidence to do the job!! BTW, I'm a DIY girl!!! 🙂

shawn malik says:

Great video, very helpful Good job you are the best.

Brian Rogalski says:

Nicoya — this was a great video. I had a cyl 5 misfire and I replaced the coil to troubleshoot. The code went away. Would you recommend replacing all six coil packs and plugs – (I don't mind opening and re-opening) After about 20 miles worth of HWY driving my engine went to reduced power. No code but I am I not sure how to diagnose (dealer is probably not an option).

Sel Texas says:

Perfect instructions. Used NGK Iridium plugs and new Bosch coils. Used magnetic spark plug socket. Done in about one hour. Parts including the spark plug socket less than $200.00. Beats the heck out of the $422.00 quote from the local shop. BTW that did not include replacing the coils. Thanks for the excellent video. I probably would not have made the effort without your video.

Jonathan Reed says:

This was truly spectacular. So helpful. You spared us the stupid millennial techno beat music with the mouse-sounding screeching and instead of skipping small steps, you took the time to show everything. What an array of tools you have! Question: after you re-installed the (not the beauty cover) large plastic housing (20-30 degree angle) you adjusted something that looks yellow on each side of the hood. What is that and can you possibly elaborate? Thanks. 06 325xi wagon manual owner (Btw the westlake village ca dealership tried to charge me $1950 for plugs and ignition coils…500 for plugs and 1450 for coils); I had to do plugs as I was on the road and the car would barely run). I'm saving $1,200 from your wonderful video!

Megafatass66 says:

after u flip up the clip on the coil, put a big screw driver through the hole and grab it on both sides and pull up. much easier!

prentis drew says:

2011 328i with 34K miles. I have a #6 misfire code and just ordered all six coils to replace them. (Might as well while in there). Your video gives me the confidence I needed. Thanks. One comment. The video is 23 minutes long, start to finish. I'll give you 30 minutes for some of the video cuts. Makes you wonder why the job costs $800 at the BMW shop. The coils cost $130 retail. Even at $300 an hour labor…$150 half hour labor + $130 parts = $280. Is there a message here?

Kevin Phillips says:

Nice work. Had I owned the E sockets it would have taken me 25 minutes to do. Driving to 5 different places to find them added an hour to the job. Thank you.

Joe Woodward says:

Great video, very helpful. Just bought an '07 328i for college daughter and did the plugs. Good hint about the 5 one back – definitely frustrating but just took patience.
