I have a heavy miss when I first start the car and it goes away after a few
seconds.. I have a strong feeling its probably a leaking intake valve seal,
would you agree? I need to change my timing belt anyway.. Should I be
thinking about changing anything else while I’m at it? I’m at 185k miles..

I don’t see how. The head will have to come off. I have done the air method
on various engines. Mitsu 2.6, SBC, some other misc chevy motors, etc and
it works fine with a simple over the head valve compressor tool. However,
you cannot use that tool as the valves are depressed deep into the head and
the tool shown in this video must be used to remove the valves, which
requires removal of the head.

On my 1.8t it is not possible. If you have a similar design then the head
will have to be pulled to get down into the valves to remove the springs.

I’ve got a 03 3.0 Audi.. Is it possible to change the valve seals without
pulling the heads?

LimpItHome says:

it is possible if both cams are removed, and you use an air pressure source
to keep the valve closed and in place (using a spark plug hole adapter)
while reinstalling the springs, retainers and keepers. some valve seal
installation tools are hollow and allow the valve seal to first be
installed around the valve, and then down onto the guide. a little assembly
lube and a magnet can be used to initially keep the valve up and closed,
and then the normal procedure for reassembly follows.
