DIY: 2011-2018 C7 Audi A6 Merc Racing Heat Exchanger Install/Coolant Change

DIY: 2011-2018 C7 Audi A6 Merc Racing Heat Exchanger Install/Coolant Change

Hey everyone! We are excited to bring you this DIY. Recently, we picked up an upgraded Heat Exchanger from the guys over at Merc Racing. This is a dual core/quad pass unit. Merc Racing sent us the exchanger, as well as their install kit to take the guess work out of getting this thing hooked up correctly. We realize this is a longer video, but we wanted to go as in depth as possible on this one. Make sure you watch with the sound on as there is a voice-over talking about what’s going on in the video. If you have any questions or suggestions leave them in the comments, and make sure you Subscribe!

For those of you doing a manual bleed of the coolant system, click on this link and scroll to page 37 of the PDF for instructions on how to locate the 3 bleed screws and perform the bleed: https://bit.ly/2LOkCvm

Update #1: In the video, when mounting the brackets to the crash bar, I accidentally put the washers on the bracket side instead of with the head of the bolt. This was a slip of the mind, and I didn’t think twice about it, because two of my bolts sank right into the groove that runs on the front of the crash bar. This locked them in and I didn’t even think about putting a washer between the two. Keep this in mind when you install.

Update #2: @ 5:50 I started explaining how to remove the passengers side coolant hose from your stock heat exchanger. It goes without saying, but I didn’t mention that you do the same thing to remove the drivers side coolant hose as well.

A couple minutes later I go over the contents of the merc racing install kit and mentioned that I only used 4 of the 6 hose clamps. That was a lie. I used all 6.

Did you route hot/cold side correctly or am I confused. I thought Passenger side is hot side and should enter lower port and driver side is cold and should exit top port?

Great video wish was here when i was shopping for heat exchange but only recommendation i would have will be to use Evan's Water High Performance Coolant i found that works a lot better than OEM but i also running stage 2+ with full bolt on's lol ๐Ÿ™‚ and for most ppl change the thermostat whilst you at it common issues along with plastic water pump on the audi b8 s4 they did revise the design to a metal one but not cover under audi warranty

AdvanSLF says:

At the 32:40 mark you grabbed a black hose and connected it to the bleeding tool. Can you explain what that hose was and the purpose of it?

Mike T. says:

I thought this was a mod for stage 2+. I didnโ€™t know stock cars would benefit from the bigger heat Exchanger. I might have to look into this.

Todd N. says:

What album of chipmunks are you rocking? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good video!

fastslash25 says:

how come the old heat exchanger stays on the car? is it used for anything or could it be removed?

How have you found the cooler so far?

Would you recommend it?

I donโ€™t have access to the compression when filling the coolant . Is it easy to bleed manually?

Thanks
