In this video, I show you how to replace the main battery on a Volvo XC60. This step-by-step guide works for most Volvo models from 2016 and newer, including XC90, V60, V90, S60, S90, and more. This is not the auxiliary or start-stop battery — this is the main 12V battery that powers the vehicle systems.
Tools required, tips, and safety steps are included. Whether your battery is dead or you’re just doing preventive maintenance, this DIY video will help.
✅ Fits Volvo SPA platform cars
✅ No special tools required
✅ Same process on T5, T6, B5, D4, etc.

Thanks, great information. Does anything else need resetting, such as auto up/down windows and pitch protection?
The mechanic wants to charge me $500 for that?!? Hell Nah. Thanks you for this
We have to reset the battery? Or there an issue if we didn’t reset
I have a 2019 XC60 T6 (US / North American model) — my dealer said they needed to do something to pair the new battery to the vehicle and re-program some settings or something once it's installed. Is that just the resetting of the BMS, or is there an additional step I'm not understanding? Does disconnecting the 12v cause the settings saved in the car's computer to get reset? Should I use one of those little OBD settings-saver devices, or should I not bother?
Excellent, thank you
Cool, Tnx so much 🙂 I don't have any OBD scanner. Can you recommend any Bluetooth OBD scanner and a smartphone app?
