A car needs 5 things to start/run. Spark, Fuel, Air, Compression and Timing. You will have to test for all five. I just posted a video about testing the fuel pump relay, paybe you can check that one out.

oh ya when i bought the car it had them lights on. Will any places come to my house to get a reading for me? Because I can’t exactly take the car to them since it don’t run. My dad has one them things but he won’t let me use it because it only lets him use it 3 times a year and then locks him out for some reason.

RSpi007 says:

LOL, putting gas in the cylinder is the wrong thing to do. Gas washes down the cylinder walls and causes the pistons to loose compression. Never do that, it also floods the car. You need to pull the plugs and let them air dry. If they have washed the piston walls down you may need to put some oil in there to help them build compression back up.

CEL is Check Engine Light. If the car has a CEL it has errors stored in the computer. You need to have AutoZone or someone read those for you for free.

I didn’t check for spark but i did remove the plugs and clean them up and added a little gas to each cylinder and sprayed starter spray in the intake and it did not attempt to fire at all so I’m thinking it also has no spark. What do you mean by “cel”? its a 99 s70glt awd

RSpi007 says:

Bad crank and bad cam sensors stop the fuel pump and spark from happening. Do you have spark? Do you know how to check for spark? If you don’t have spark you need to find out why. Do you have a CEL? These cars are sensitive to CEL’s. What year is the car?

A guy sold me a s70 and said the crank sensor might be going bad. It would start good and other times take like 30 secs to start. Now it wont start at all. I also don’t hear the fuel pump hum when i turn the key but the guy said he just replaced the pump. Could a bad crank sensor stop the pump from working?

You are welcome. Most of the 850 repairs will apply as well.

thanks for the video….our son is driving our older S70 and this is very helpful! He’s learning a great deal about auto repair with this car. This is something he can easily follow.

Just a tip, I have a ’95 850 non-turbo. My brother checked the code and this sensor seemed to be the problem. But instead of replacing it we just cleaned it up and made sure it was getting a good connection. 200 miles later, it’s still running great!
