Great Video! I used to have a 1994 Volvo 854. I loved it so much. I now
have a 2012 Toyota Camry SE. I had my Volvo for almost 8 years. I am
looking forward to see more of your videos. Thanks!

Very informative! Thanks for making this video

This is excellent. Thanks for confirming that the A/C compressor turns off
under full load! I always wondered how the car knew to disengage the A/C
while I was romping on it, its as if they want to shed the extra drag and
let the car rip down the road when under full throttle. Love my 850!

Very professional Robert. You need your own T.V. show. I am a mechanic but
have never worked on a Volvo and I am about to buy one so I thought I’d go
to school. Thanks from Texas

Hi robert..my 850 sedan with OBD 1 engine are running under power.starting
very slow and top speed only can reach 170km/h..what the best solution to
increase the performance?…tq

tex fix says:

thanks! been driving my s70 glt for 6 years now. if i would have known to
check these things before purchase i may not have gotten this car lol. but
have since replaced all the things listed. much cheaper doing it yourself,
i cant say its a fun car to work on but i havent worked on any others.
theres a good write up on the pcv system that was super helpful on one of
the volvo forums. another thing to check/just replace that can be expensive
is the fuel pump relay ~$25(cost me 600 after 3 mechanics) itll cause
stalling and no check engine light….hard to figure out at first but can
cost alot after fuel pump, fuel filter, vacuume lines, etc.

Mike Corder says:

Robert, great videos! I have a ’97 850 T5. I did my PCV overhaul back in
2010. I am surprised that those rubber elbows and hoses don’t last very
long. That top hose that snakes through the intake manifold.is as hard as
a rock and I have replaced a few of the elbows a few times already. How
often are you overhauling your PCV system? I don’t do many miles on my
car.

how about open the oil cap and look in? one s70 they swore its an AWESOME
car had a white film inside from water and oil mixture. I walked away !

its a Volvo 850 there is always an issue !
great cars and run and run just your changing items every yr on them….

James Derrig says:

Thanks Robert. I have been driving my ’01 C70 for 18 months and try keep it
well maintained both bringing it to a local independent shop and DIY. Your
videos are very well done and extremely helpful.

I have a v70 tdi, great car and all working but there is a slight oil leak
under it every morning, not enough to make a divverence to oil levels in a
100o miles of use,but it i annoying,it seems to be coming from the left
side of then lower engine but there is a cover to remove to see
clearly, hoping its an oil filter leak or sump plug leak, any thoughts

Robert DIY says:

My mechanic said that the 16T is a good upgrade. If you upgrade your
computer, injectors, and exhaust you will get better performance. Not sure
if that is your issue or not, just doing a balance upgrade will help.

Robert DIY says:

LOL, there are 100 things that you can check, this just has the most common
costly ones. I have another 30 minute pre-purchase video.

siemenstraffic says:

Here’s a tip if you live in the Rust Belt or in Canada where they dump road
salt during the winter season.. Check the upper front strut mount spring
seat bushing for rust.

Robert DIY says:

I really do not know. Maybe there is a bad adjustment on the waste gate or
something. Does the RPM’s raise to the red line?

Sham Ku says:

after changing 15g to 16t my speed can go max 140km only..what i need to
do? ..

Sham Ku says:

my mechanic told me to change injector , computer box and exhaust system..

Robert DIY says:

None. If you are upgrading the turbo you might want to jump to an 18T.

Sham Ku says:

what modification to do for changing turbo 15g to 16T for my 850 T5 ?

Robert DIY says:

Thank you sir. Trying to give some of these people a heads up.

David Ward says:

As an ase certified mechanic,I thought thos was a well done video! Good job
Brother:)

peta ward says:

peta ward says:

amen to that

bisket2003 says:

Yeah, Its been some time since I have got it running again, that was very
early this year. The valve is deff. unstuck now, just I think the seat is
not perfect. The injectors looked ok to me and I to run the Lucas from time
to time, I just dont know what else the #2 misfire could be from? I dont
think it happens often. I do have a pressing question on the fuel pump
system. If you could check the Volvoforum for me and see what you can add,
it’d be much appreciated!
