Glad the video helped. Some people open it up and resolder them. Open it up and hit the solder joint to remelt them.

I keep a spare in my glove box.

G’day Rob, just say your post while trolling for a solution to my dilemma. Your post solved my problem! Now I just need a new relay…

RSpi007 says:

Did you watch the video? The video shows you how to remove the cover to access the relays.

MeBerserk says:

Hey, I have a 850 Volvo in the Netherlands.
For some reason the 101-102 and 103 are not on there. There are no sockets for relay and I can look down through the hole to see the side of other relays.
But I’m not sure how to get there, nor if the relay will be there.
Could you help me with that? Thanks

RSpi007 says:

I have not had to pull a fuel pump yet but there is a couple of written tutorials that show how to do it. You will have to check on Matthews Volvo Site or Volvo Forums. You can likely Google it.

I have a question. I had someone change my fuel pump on a 1996 850 glt. I called Volvo to order fuel pump but they only sale the entire fuel pump assembly. We obtained the fuel pump itself. When he took the fuel pump out of the housing unit, there is a spring and grommet. Could you tell me which way the spring should go when putting fuel pump in housing unit. ex. He stretch smaller end of spring to put it on the top of the fuel pump bc he said it holds the fuel pump in place. Is this correct?

RSpi007 says:

Glad it all worked out.

Today I’ve put the new relay in it’s place. The pump is ok and everything runs smooth. Didn’t really plan to test an idea like that on my car, but somehow it turned out that way.

RSpi007 says:

I really believe the relay is there to cut of the fuel pump in the event of another problem to shut down the motor. Say the crank or cam sensor senses that the timing is off, it should shut down the fuel pump, via the relay. If the car is not running or stalls, the relay shuts down the pump. With the jumper wire in the pump runs all of the time until you turn the key off.

RSpi007 says:

Ok, thanks.

90Ming90 says:

I did, it looks like everything is in order. I needed to drive the car for aboat 20 miles and it’s good, however the pump seemed to run a bit louder when I started the car. Tomorrow i’ll throw another relay in and i’ll post if there are any problems. The engine’s b5204t.

RSpi007 says:

I don’t know. If you find out post back.

90Ming90 says:

In case of, let’s say “emergency”, would any component suffer from running the pump with a wire rather than a relay? I’m talking aboat a 5-10 mile drive.
