Thanks for the advice. It’s a very awkward position. I have a little hack
saw. I will try to work on it tomorrow. Thanks.

Robert DIY says:

I seen it. Lots still sticking out. Maybe you can cut it level with a hack
saw blade. A little time consuming but it will start you back to square 1
with the extraction process. It is best to try to extract what is left of
the bolt with the housing on. That will create a risk of damaging the top
housing as well. Let me know if you need help. I sent a message through
your channel.

1994 Volvo stripped thermostat bolt is the title. I m not sure how to send
a link.

EricCGran says:

I just posted a video of what is left. Thanks for all the advice this far.

Robert DIY says:

It would be nice to see what is left… What I would do is try to drill a
pilot hole to get a larger screw or smaller screw to hold that side of the
housing down. Doesn’t have to be real tight, the seal stops the leaks and
one bolt in might hold it for a few days. Order or get another thermostat
housing. Once you get it, you’ll have to pull the intake manifold, which
includes taking the fuel rail loose, and install the new housing. Those
housings need a gasket as well.

EricCGran says:

I got the head off, got the cap off but its seized deep inside. I have
tried many extraction kits. Stud removal from Harbor Freight, Bolt
extractor drive set from Craftsman. I have sprayed penetration oil, tapped
on it and asked it nicely to move. The craftsman drive set was working but
then the neck of the bit broke. Its in a really awkward position. I have
thought maybe I should move the fuel injectors out of the way That is
little out of my comfort zone. I’m out of ideas. Do you have any?

EricCGran says:

Thank you. i just stripped my the other day. I will be using your advice
tomorrow.

man you make this look to easy .

Robert DIY says:

Have you tried to get it out with a GOOD T30? If not, try that, I’ve never
had one of them that wouldn’t come out. You can use the driver that came in
the tool pouch and put a crescent wrench on the part that the handle locks
on (1/2 way down the shaft). That usually give you the torque you need to
break it loose. Not sure why people put those on so tight, they simply hold
a dust cover on. When you install them, put them on finger tight. If you
can’t get it loose, most people break the cover.
