How to Lift an AWD P80 Volvo V70

How to Lift an AWD P80 Volvo V70

In this Steve’s Garage video, I use spacers to lift a P80 AWD Volvo with simple. Before anything else, I want to say that this is the method and idea of Adam Nonis and his forum thread here: https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/lifting-your-p80-v70r-v70xc-v70-awd.637354/

All I’ve done is take the information from Adams post and put it in video form. As stated in his posts, this method works for all AWD versions of the P80 wagon (V70XC, V70R V70 AWD). I cannot confirm if it works for FWD as I don’t have experience with those. While this isn’t a super complicated procedure, I don’t recommend tackling it without prior experience with suspension. If you have experience with P80 suspension, this lift should be pretty simple to execute.

I ran this setup for just over a year and had zero issues. After that point, I went with a bigger lift, which you can see here: https://youtu.be/_KVmy-eGunM

Remember that these P80 Volvos are getting old! You may run into other issues when tearing into it. I highly suggest replacing any parts your taking out, as the chance of them breaking or being worn out and damaged is pretty high. Be prepared for whatever you may encounter, and possible part delays! As always, I’m not responsible for any of your mistakes made along the way. Please comment with any questions!

Great video! Thanks for this. About the only things I did different in the rear (I'm not 100% sure it helps) was to loosen the bolt on the front of the torque arm (the three bolt plate in the front) before I took everything else apart and I also loosen the bolt closest to the center of the car on the lower rear control arm. Basically, like the sway bar, all the bushings are "set" in the position they've been living in over their lives. Loosening the hardware makes it easier for everything to move around.

Great stuff Steve!

Mustang Justin says:

THANK YOU! I'm lowering my awd & for the life of me couldn't get the spring out. This video is what I needed to see. There really is very little info on these AWD rear suspensions.

Andy D says:

How did this impact the fuel milage

Where is his Instagram link?

Hi i am planning on replacing springs and shocks on my V70 XC from 2000 (same chassi as you have). Do you know if there are any options for springs that keep the ride height at stock while using normal shocks, not the nivomatic that come stock on the v70 xc?

Also, i assume you use the stock nivomatic and springs rear. Is the suspension bouncy or harsh or anything? how is it?

Hi, do you know the diameter of the back spacer?

would you mind sharing the vendors links or something? 🙂

Christoph Steiniger says:

Hello Steve, my name is Christoph from Germany and i own the same car like you. Can you tell me where i can buy the liftkit which you have shown in your video? I need the same one for my XC! Thank you Christoph

rootsuitman says:

Thank you for the very informative video! Much respect.

Nick LeClaire says:

Where did you order the lift from? And how much is it?

pachuca gomez says:

Thanks for your video, I'm from Argentina, here getting volvo spare parts is almost impossible and I have a 98 v70 awd with suspension problems. I tried to solve some of the problem but I was never able to remove the spring completely, it is not an easy job, when I watch your video I regain hope to attack the problem again. Many greetings and thanks again.

Jan Luesink says:

Are you also familiar with mounting larger springs?
