Front strut assembly replacement, Volvo 850, S70, V70, etc. – VOTD

Strut assembly replacement: 1-1/2 to 2 hours ($300 / $480 / $800)

This video show assembly replacement with a salvaged unit. You can get new units from some auto parts suppliers, most people get units from Amazon (Gabriels). This video was filmed on a Volvo 850 but the process is the same for most vehicles.

TORQUE VALUES:
Spring seat – 53 ft lbs.
Strut mount bolt – 53 ft lbs.
Top assembly 3 bolts, strut mount to frame – 19 ft lbs.
Strut to steering knuckle – 49 ft lbs. plus 90 degrees.
Sway bar end link – 38 ft lbs.

Hey Robert, I have a 99 s70 I am going to put on lowering springs front and rear. Is their such thing as lowering shocks or would replacement oem ones be fine?

Hi Robert, I have a 1996 960 and I'm looking for struts. I've found most of the things needed (strut, mounting, etc), but I can't find the coil spring anywhere. Are they all standard size and just need to be compressed, or do you have to have specific springs for cars like most parts?

I do beleive the 2 bolts on the lower end are not a thight fit and the angle of the wheel will be affected if you just put them back without adjusting,
