Aircon compressor repair ’98 Volvo V70

This is much better than getting a new compressor installed for $800. The swearing and fiddling while installing the clips is not shown :P.

Hi I love the video, can you tell me which compressor this is.. Delphi or Zexel ?

MetaphysicalEngineer says:

There are three places where the bread clips are installed, at equal distance around the pulley. Use the screw driver to turn the pulley until you can find the other two places. I used high temperature gasket maker, but any permanent glue or epoxy will work as long as it can take high temperature.

Hi, I saw your video I really like the trick how you use the brad clips okay I have a question? You install the first brad clip on the top gap by wedge the flat screw driver where did you install the other 2 brad clips? Could you please describe? and what kind a a glue or sealed you use for brad clips so they cannot fly out when the engine is running. Please do reply to me

Thanks from Spain!!!

MetaphysicalEngineer says:

It was high temperature gasket maker. Pretty much any epoxy or adhesive will work as long as it’s tacky enough to be smeared on and will survive 100+ degrees C. Good luck with the repair 🙂

John Gramaglia says:

I found it. Can you tell me what adhesive you used?

MetaphysicalEngineer says:

On this model (1998 GLT) it’s a tight squeeze but no parts of the car need to be removed other than the cover/air hose for the engine computer. I suggest you look on forums to see if there’s any info for the 2000 V70. The compressor will be on the belt side but may look different and/or be in a different place than it is in the ’98.

John Gramaglia says:

I have a 2000 S70 with the same problem. Is it easy to get to the clutch or does the tire have to come off?

MetaphysicalEngineer says:

It’s a legit and well documented DIY fix for these compressors. And yeah, I’m pretty used to metric because of physics/electronics classes and how many people I watch who are from countries that use metric.

DangerousAndAwesome says:

Also I like how you’re using metric temperature measurements in the states.

Fixing a car with bread tags. Seems legit :P

Have to try it. Thanks
