Thank you very much!

Kevin Dark says:

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about this fob. I bought an
after-market fob shell from ebay and managed to switch the inners & switch
blade key of my old beaten up key fob to the shiny new shell with the help
of your video. I even managed to prise my transponder out to put in the new
shell! Thanks! :)

Bashir Chughtai says:

Excellent details of loading proper tension on spring in place in lower
body piece. I recommend using black GE Silicon in stead of JB Weld which
gives you seal the assembly or dis-assembly with ease as well as color to
match the PVC Body. You can separate with a utility knife blade by simply
prying & applying pressure in lieu of sawing. .

“Ah maaaan…don’t get angry” Great vid. :)

Stephen Schwedhelm says:

Great video and lots of great detail. I just received my replacement piece
off of ebay and cut open my old one. It seems like the transponder could
be moved over but I noticed you didn’t approach it that way. Does anyone
have advice on how to get the transponder loose without breaking it?

mixedgraphix says:

grate guide!!! thanks a lot.

nicewknd says:

Excellent video!!! The hard part of this whole process is getting the
spring and button assembly back into position. At 38:00 I noticed you
started to fill the crack you cut with your handsaw. However when you apply
the epoxy it gets on the outer plastic shell which is going to discolor the
key. It might have been a good idea to apply some masking or painters tape
to keep the area nice and clean.

glschfc says:

Excellent vidio. Both of my wife’s keys are doing the flip flop and she
wants them fixed. She throws them in her purse with the key extended and I
think that with things banging against it the tabs in the internal part of
the fob have broken off. I detest paying the dealer the 150 to 200 to
replace the key so I will give this a try. Thank you

fordf1502 says:

can i get the older style remote and transmitter for my 2004?

TheTexasCoder says:

@nicewknd You are absolutely right. The epoxy dried to a light gray color,
which looks horrible. But, I am currently recording a video of how I am
sanding the “shell” and repainting it black. I just can’t get my wife to
stop driving the car for a couple of days so I can finish the video 🙂
Thanks for watching and your comment. I hope the video helped!

glschfc says:

I finished the rebuild of both key fobs this weekend. I followed the video
and it went smoothly. Thanks again for the video.

Isaac Belcher says:

If anyone still has their unwanted transponder chip from the new donor key,
I’m looking for one.

Andrew Jackson says:

Good video but where do you make the cut on the switchblade ?

701mila says:

Thank you, this video helps me (from Prague)

TheTexasCoder says:

@glschfc That is awesome! I love comments like this!! I am glad the video
helped, and you have a working switchblade key. Thanks for the comment!

danish mushtaq says:

i have lost th keys of volvo 2003 s60 what to do

g7 says:

Thank you for an informative video. I have two broken keys that I can now
fix.

TheTexasCoder says:

@TheStalker1968 Thanks for the reply, sorry it took so long getting back to
you, I have been out of town for the holidays. That is great you got it to
work, those transponders can be fragile little guys! Thanks again for
posting and watching!

1morelefty says:

Thanks Mate! Followed the steps and fixed the key Fob on my 2003 S60 Volvo
key using the $17.99 ebay replacement part. A couple of comments: 1. I
found no need to pry the pieces apart, I just kept cutting through towards
the key pivot and eventually the parts just fall apart once the glue is cut
completely before you get to the key pivot. 2. I used a pair of small, fine
and sharp side cutters to carefully cut away the plastic to eventually get
to the transducer. The plastic is fairly brittle.

TheTexasCoder says:

@glschfc Excellent! I am glad the video helped! I have to say, the fix has
held up REALLY well. My three year old loves to play with the key when we
are at the store, and to date, the key is still working properly. Just
remember, take your time on winding that spring, that took the longest for
me 🙂 Thanks again for watching and for the comment!

Armin nimrA says:

This video is greate… its very clear and you are telling it all so well
that everyone would be able to change this. Just like you I wanted to save
some money and above all it’s also fun to make something out of nothing….
My own brother said “No, that’s not possible to make it like this” and I
did it just by following your video. Again, Thank you very much for this
video.

mysonsdad says:

When you want to pop the battery cover off, look inside the key well for
the little tab at back. Stick a jewelers screwdriver in there and gently
pry the tab up and the cover comes right off. Great vid on the
repair….thanks!

Andrew C says:

And uhhhh, uhhhhh so uhh ya uhh

s1082or says:

Thanks for the video, it helped out a lot. I actually bought a switchblade
off eBay without a transponder for $17.99 and did your trick of just
cutting the old one apart and carefully chipped out the glue around the
transponder and popped it out with a little pick tool and installed it in
the new switchblade, which was not glued shut and just popped open. Also i
did not have to use any glue or anything to seal it back up it seems to be
staying together with just the single screw. Thanks again.

popejc says:

The plastic piece that the button locks into was broke once I cut mine
open. I dremeled out the transponder on the old one and the new one. Put
the old one into the new top replaced the key and put back together.

Violator Vinh says:

Thank you so much for sharing us the video, You musr help lot of husbands
avoi from being trouble!

gregory mathews says:

any chance i could just replace the spring? this way avoiding the $31.00
expense?

TheTexasCoder says:

@fordf1502 To be honest, I do not know if the older style remote will work.
But, just to make sure, call your local volvo dealer and ask the service or
parts department, and see what they think. Thanks for watching and for the
comment!

John Murphy says:

excellent video done it this morning only cost £8 for top part of the key
fob and took me less than an hour thanks so much for your help

dominic campion says:

@TheStalker1968 ignore my post above as i answerd my own question, yes it
does come out and yes it can be switched and yes it works. I have a fully
functioning key for £18.

Robo Steen says:

It is informative but too long. If there was an Anatomy of the Volvo key
class you would pass it.

Ecodent1 says:

It’s made of POM plastic you can’t glue it.

dominic campion says:

the part of my key that broke carries the transponder, i had bought a
second hand key off ebay with a view to switching the piece of plastic over
from the doner key to my key, can i remove the transponder from one key to
the other???

TheTexasCoder says:

That is awesome! I love success stories like this, and the money we save is
also great! Great job on switching the transponder out! Thanks again for
watching and for the comment!
