dumptonpark says:

Thanks for sharing.

George Ortiz says:

Why does my motor, 1776, straight cut gear cam, w/Weber Progressive, the
oil turns dark really quick? I know that I need to change it every 3000
miles but my oil turns black really quick. Any Ideas?

David See says:

Anyone know the metric sizes for the cap nuts and drain plug? Thank
you!

Michael Adams says:

Well done,,, I would love to see something on changing oil on Eurovans…

texan176 says:

What weight of oil is the correct one to use? I have heard both straight 30
and 10w30. It does not drop below freezing where I live.

Taylor Demarest says:

Awesome video! Thanks so much! I’m learning how to maintain my type 3 as
best I can without depending on a mechanic for every little task. This
video is a perfect step-by-step demonstration of how to go about changing
my own oil.

Jefferson Gomez says:

Great video!!! It help a lot to newbie like me..I never imagine a Classic
Beetle doesn’t have oil filter..

Mr572u says:

After you drain the oil, you can jack up the car on one side and let it sit
there a while. All the residual oil will run to the side and not out the
hole. Much less hassel with the clean gasket surface.

TRLEATHERFACE says:

HAY GREAT VID WHAT IS THE NAME OF SOLVENT YOU USED ON THE GASKETS

Rottensteve says:

I sat through the whole vid just to see were the oil goes… Man
everythings in german on my motor dont wanna pour oil in wrong place

valandsergio says:

Good afternoon, what is the brand of the Form Gasket that you mention and
is there a oil filter? Thanks for your help.

utraceman says:

I though you needed to use 2.6 quarts not 3 quarts of oil. Some I think
recommend 2.5 quarts.

Adam Sievers says:

in the center of the plate hes showing you there is a drain plug

CMS2000 says:

Perfect! Thanks!

jamie814641 says:

Awesome! This may seem simple to those who know what they’re doing but for
a first timer like me this video is great. You can see what parts to expect
as well as what to do to minimise leakage. Thank you for posting!

Kbillowits says:

savemyvw says:

great video! Now all I need is something to flip my car upside. :o)
Seriously though this should help people who are new to VWs and changing
the oil.

Best VW videos out there! Thanks for taking the time to post them on the
Web! I tried to order some items off your website but I kept getting
errors. I’ll just call it in. You should look into updating or changing
your site though. Although it may seem like easy work and common knowledge
to most VW owners, those of us new to the VW engine really appreciate these
videos! Thanks again Airhead parts!!!!!

Dab11082 says:

I was told by professional VW mechanics that 30SAE is the vest for
air-cooled engines.

volksbugly says:

Great video I didn’t know about using the hammer to straiten out the cover,
I look forward to having a non leaking engine soon. 🙂

Howard Andrews says:

things like this really help anyone new to the scene. much thanks.

dschoppers says:

Great video, helped make it a breeze for me

Adam Sievers says:

brake cleaner should work fine to clean the screen… basically any solvent
should work

nnylknurts says:

This is so old, I doubt I will get a response, but… what is the name of
the gasket sealer used? I know the cap nuts are 10mm, but what is the size
of the drain plug? Oh… and THANK YOU for the tip on re-flushing the cap
plate holes with the ball peen hammer. That should fix a leakage problem.

cs1lax says:

ETCalyssa: Best way to drain oil skip the center drain plug, some don’t
even have them. Place pan, remove cap nuts until the plate drops enough to
let oil drain. Pull plate rest of the way to get all oil out. Pull out the
screen, we’d clean it with lacquer thinner in plastic bowl, dry off. Used
to be you could get oil change kit with new copper washers and cardboard
washers for the screen, one top one bottom. we never used any type of goop.
Install, don’t overtighten and fill with oil.
