(DIY) Volkswagen Headlight Low Beam Bulb Replacement | No Tools | MK7 Golf

Today I replaced my MK7 Volkswagen Golf’s headlight bulb, specifically, the low beam light. There are many ways to get this job done but I wanted to do it fast and easy without having to take off my front bumper. In total, this job took me 5 – 7 minutes.

*One thing to note is that you should wear gloves while touching the bulb. Any form of contact with your skin will reduce the life of the bulb. I found out about that after installing it… Whoops. The salts and oils from your skin will damage the bulb and cause the heat to concentrate. We learn from our mistakes and move on! I hope this helps…

Finally got it, what a stupid design, kept knocking the bulb off the thingy, now worried it’s going to fall off first bump in the road

BiiCii says:

Thank you for making this video. It helped me a lot!

You’re touching the bulb

Jason says:

The one on the opposite side is relatively easy

Linda Muvic says:

Not supposed to touch the bulb with your skin, oils will fry bulb.

Christian Heirbrant says:

hello, the dealers are money pumps, I do a lot myself and I just replaced my left bulb as in the video and I got there with a bit of a hassle but I got there, thank you for the information

The driver's side is easy compared to the passenger side bulb.

I have the light package on my GTI would it be the same way?

mackenziekid says:

I watched a different youtube video that showed taking apart the whole front end to get to the bulb! I DID that unfortunately, and still couldn't remove it… Then I saw your video. Lifesaver! Had it done in minutes. I really want to thank you!

Geoffrey says:

Thank you for this! I have the Canadian 2015 VW golf. You weren't kidding about a tight fit, I had to get my son (14) with his small hands that smell like cabbage to do it for me.

Harry Simpson says:

Mines not a rubber cap it's a plastic disc it looks like it's spinlock will I still be able to do it without taking anything off

Brett Kalmeta says:

If you have man sized hands this is damn near impossible and I wanted to kill someone. I couldn't even put my hand in the space where I was supposed to pull the bulb out FYI. This was INCREDIBLY hard for me. One hour. Couldn't even get the bulb back into the slot. And for that matter I had a hard time even getting it into the small space between the headlight and the fuse box to rotate it so that I could insert it back into place

A very good video and worked a treat. Thanks

KADY says:

This was SO helpful… literally 10 mins of our time. Thank you!!

Tim Bick Voiceover says:

You are a genius sir. Last time I changed one of these it took me about an hour and a lot of skinned knuckles. Your simple hints enabled me to do it in 5 minutes. I would add that it really helps to pay attention to the position of the holder when you are removing it, makes it much easier to put it back exactly right the first time. There are a bunch of other videos on here that go through a huge process of removing the headlight unit entirely just to change a bulb – not necessary in the slightest.

J-Wake N2REM says:

Hi thanks for uploading this video, the only tutorial i found without removing the entire headlight housing and tona of screws. I have a question though, did you change to a higher wattage? May i know the details?

I felt my low beam was crap specially in unlit roads.

My mk7 was 2015.

Shane Spencer says:

Just did it this way. No problem. Thanks for saving me a few hours work (my jobs always take longer than they should)
