Chris Clark says:

I haven’t spotted any fuel leaks but my bug makes my garage reek of
gasoline. Why is this?

renragged says:

I have a ’73 Bug with a ’74 “California” 1600 engine in it. Getting the
engine out wasn’t too hard. I did it myself. But after rebuilding it,
trying to put it back in was a son of a gun. I had my stepson and
son-in-law helping me and we could NOT get it back in. I ended up taking
off the muffler assembly and then when I tried the engine went right in,
smooth as silk. But from all the videos I’ve watched, I’ve never seen
someone have to remove the muffler. 🙁

Derek Hussey says:

Chris, I am having the same trouble as maggothertic117. The top left nut
behind the motor on the bell housing is a round nut. Did some come standard
with this? I cannot get it off for the life of me. Haha I have a 1968 Vw
Bug, 1600cc. Please help. Thanks.

twomonkeysayoyo says:

Dj Kronas says:

learning car

Eduardo Torresméndez says:

i agree…probably is the easiest engine in the world for everything!!

moyadapne says:

Ah, this takes me back to the ’60s at the VW dealership. The cry would go
out ‘TOP BOLTS!’ 5 minutes later…the motor’s on the floor.

Danny C says:

your videos are awesome man, and extremely helpful. about to go pull my
1600 out and put in my 1776! (’74 super) thanks for the help!

myid4meonly says:

Get the motor low to the ground and drop the back end over it.

DYNO323 says:

morning when I turn the car on a lot of white smoke comes out the tail pipe
:S What can be causing this?

maggotheretic117 says:

Chris Vallone says:

150-200lbs

Yung Josh says:

I occurred this very same problem. You have to remove the bolt attached to
this round “boss/nut” from underneath the car. I removed the exhaust
(driver’s side) and the driver’s side wheel/tire to gain easier access.
Just a little PITA to gain access but once its off it’s just as described.

aloano says:

Thanks Chris, you make my life easier!

valandsergio says:

Me too. So simple to work with it.

Brandon Hollenbeck says:

Hey i had a question; i removed my engine to replace the seals and

doesn’t reach anymore.. any ideas? Thanks.

Петър Долашки says:

Thanks Chris you are the best!!!

monongahelian says:

@oceancity724 How is this meaningless advice. It’s just the opposite.I just
pulled my engine today in my ’62 Bug and I did it the exact same way.Well I
don’t have a lift, I used a hydro.jack.And just like the video I left the
fan shroud on.By the way, this is the same procedure that’s in the Bentley
Manual. That’s the same one VW techs use.You talk a lot of Crapola ! But you
don’t back it up with anything but cursing and undeserved insults. This man
knows his stuff.Period.

Brian Earp says:

the super beetles are essentially the same as a standard beetle from the
doors back ive got a 74 super and a 69 standard

monongahelian says:

@brighteyefilms

scott sailer says:

I want to second on the asking for a putting engine back in. vid. Do you
have any on best way to go about breaking it down? That would be super!

luckyrabbit666 says:

Hello. I just bought a 1965 VW Bug out of Missisppi from the original
owner. The car is actually really solid, but has several issuse. The engine
has been switched from a 40HP to a 70Hp and someone attempted to convert
the car from 6V to 12V. I’m fixing the car to sell and would like to know
if it will hurt the value to finish the conversion or should I put it back
original? Also, is it worth the expense to find an original 1965 engine, or
just use the one I have? Any help will be useful.

drumrooster says:

I hv my bug on blocks under all 4 wheels is this ok to pull the engine?
will the tranny support the car lk this ok?..just drop the engine with it
on blocks? thanks

foamermetal says:

With all the engine work that gets accomplished there, why not use a motor
porter that vw used. If you do have one could you post a video of it being
used.

Vinicius Guedes says:

My dream is to have a VW Beetle Automatic Stickshift or modify any VW
Beetle. I live in Brazil and I think here would be very difficult to modify
a VW Beetle 🙁

Brett Krum says:

i have one question, how much do these engines weight about?

G0H1LK4M says:

Frederick Bock says:

Nice original bug, what year was that ?I had a 61 for my 1st car, i thought
the fuel filter was next to the carb not under the chassis, is that the way
they were in that year? 36 hp?

maggotheretic117 says:

out, just another day in the off… i mean garage.
