Catastrophic VW Engine Failure and Teardown 2.0t TSI

Catastrophic VW Engine Failure and Teardown 2.0t TSI

This 2.0t TSI Volkswagen GTI engine had catastrophic piston failure on cylinder 1. This was likely caused by LSPI. Ive seen a few VW GTI engines fail with the piston breaking apart. This is may be due to EXTREME KNOCK. In this video we will teardown the engine, talk about why and how it failed, and a little about GTI Racecar. #humblemechanic #vw #GTI

HumbleMechanic says:

So my loose plan is to rebuild this engine with some IE internal goodies, buy a wrecked MK7 GTI, DSG and make a full prep track car. That type of content doesn't seem super relatable, but id love your thoughts on it…

Phillycheezz says:

Are there any company’s that make adapter plates to take a 1.8 or 2.0 to a rear wheel drive trans? I really want to do a little street truck build with a Vw motor. Buddy of mine has a few Vw’s with bad trans

Jake Elliott says:

That is not a catastrophic failure, it is normal wear and tear according to VW warranty guidlines.

Oleg knows best says:

This engine makes me think back to the time I was a witness at a coroner. They cut open the body, rip everything out and check it to ascertain the cause of death and then throw everything back in the chest and stomach and sow the meatbag back up. Needless to say I didn't feel like getting a hamburger the next couple of days…

F165 says:

If I bought you a running 2004 Golf 2.0 manual. Could you install a cam in it and tune it?

Pawan Kumar Yadav says:

What causes an engine blast? The hole due to blast is on the chamber beside the Crankshaft.

Chris Taylor says:

Yuck Has Been Found !

Alouis Schäfer says:

Oil was really nasty too in this engine. Of course no significant varnish and sludge buildup yet bc low miles but yeah I guess this wasn't changed every 5-6k miles…

Gplus Gplus! says:

-Hey Mr Tuner, I'm calling because your tune blew up my engine, will you pay for a new one?
-Beep beep beep.

George says:

amazing content Charles! love the channel!

Timothy Strees says:

Working on my build, I'm looking about $7k before tuning with hardware, gaskets and turbo factored in.

If you do a track gti document it at least and share it even in its raw state if you don't want to put a lot of time into them. I get it you gotta make the content that gets the views.

Landon Blankemeyer says:

Not only VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat using that engine, Porsche as well in the Macan

Derrick Odyes says:

I drove late 80's and 90's vws loved the simplistic engines and design tho think id never want to own a car with that engine there

Scott Free says:

I ain't knocking Volkswagen. I work on them myself and find them temperamental as an engine and sometimes with software. What I'm wondering, no doubt your intelligence is above average and your knowledge is admirable but why Volkswagen? There are plenty of less complicated, cheaper and more durable engines out there. What oath lead you there?
