good video but there are a couple of things I want to note for people 1st
would be if you are going to do a brake job without replacing the rotors (
I don’t recomend it ) certainly do not Pry with a screwdriver against the
rotor. undo the caliper bolts on the back of the caliper (2 bolts ) Pull
caliper off the rotor and turn in the pistons in with a c-clamp using the
old pads to turn against .. brake jobs are almost all the same so watch a
few videos on brakes . 2nd the little “tab” on the pad is the squeal tab
when your brakes are “Gone” they squeal thats the tab hitting the rotor
Metal on metal. for Rick H the back brakes on a tacoma are not disk brakes
they are Drum with brake shoes … there are several rear brake shoe videos
on youtube they are all done the same as well basically one rule of thimb
is do ONE side at a time so you can look at the other side for reference
there are a few springs in there and you need to remember where they go
that why the other side with tire off and drum off you can look and
reference …
Wow looks easy. I just might do mine this weekend. I picked up pads today
but was thinking of getting someone else to do it. Where do you live? I
think my calipers are corroded from the salt on the roads here in Nova
Scotia.
Hey thanks a bunch, Jim! Just replaced my breaks and it worked exactly the
same. There was virtually no difference between the 2008 & 2006. Completed
the whole process in an hour. Great video, man. You’re officially the
coolest person on YouTube.
I am glad you posted this video. I couldn’t figure where to start and I
have changed pads many times. The 2008 design was so different than my
older Toyota. The hardest part was getting the wheels off I guess they were
rusted on from all the river water on the road I go thru. Once I got the
wheels off it was so simple and only took about 15 minutes per wheel. I
hope the back pads are the same design. Thanks again for posting this
video.
I’m sure it is similar, but I don’t know for sure because I’ve only had
this one. Maybe someone else will chime in with some info for you, or you
could check on a Toyota forum.
Excellent video! I had just done my ’05 Rav4 and expected the Tacoma to be
similar. Tacoma will be even easier, you don’t even remove the caliper at
all. Some tips: – The tab is universal on disc pads…it’s made of a soft
metal like brass or copper and it’s designed to scrap against the rotor and
cause a squeal…telling you it’s time to change the brakes. – When prying
the pistons back, it you intend on reusing the rotors you need to be extra
careful not to scratch or score the rotor surface.
I am trying this man lol……CAN someone please tell me which one better??
OEM toyota pads vs OEM TRD TOYOTA pads, was thinking of installing the TRD
pads this time, since TRD parts are performance.
I just had to replace my rear universal joint, which was easy. I have
107000 miles on my truck now so in the next couple years you may need to do
the same. My symptoms were vibration during acceleration. I read some
forums and decided to look at my universal joints. The rear one showed
rusty dust all over the place, where the front 2 were still black. I fixed
my problem for around $16. Easy fix. I’ll make a vid to show anyone what is
necessary if needed.
This is a great video. Thanks for the high quality of the vid and the info.
I think you forgot to tell the people they need to bend the ends of the
cotter pins when they put the new ones in. Keep those excellent videos
coming friend.
The clip on the bottom of the inner pad is there for the purpose of letting
you know when the pads are critical low. the edge of the clip actually will
make contact with the rotor and making a screeching sound. when you hear
that sound, you have aprox. 2 weeks to go!
Hope those replacement pad are Factory one, not the Raybesto nonsense. I
got 98,000 miles on original pad.(2005 PreRunner v6 Tacoma TRD pkg) Toyota
parts are super high quality, long lasting.
Learn to spell people, break = take a lunch break, brake = my truck has
good brakes….please.

helpful thanks again.
so you don’t have to “bleed” your brake lines after the pads are installed?

Any problems occur from not turning the rotors, thanks for the information,
great video!

Great instructional video. Great camera work. Gotta replace mine but it’s a
2006 Tacoma 4X4. Is the process the same?

Thanks for the info.

I have an 06 6 lug tacoma. Is it going to have the same set up as the 08?
That DOES look pretty easy. I have an ’09, gonna change my pads soon too.
