Thank you! for the Video just finished fixing my truck. Thanks to your Very
detailed instructions

Michae Allen says:

My neighbor is a mechanic and according to him, I need to replace my door
lock actuator. The lock cable is a mechanical part but the actuator is
electrical. So that was the likely culprit all along. Problem is, its hard
to get out of a junkyard because all of the Sequioas are on the road and it
costs $80. But at least I know how to get in and out of there now.

Dustin Peterson says:

Did you get an answer to this, Michae? Same problem here…

Carlos Castro says:

Dude thanx man you save me $400 God Bless You !!!

Daniel M says:

Thanks man, helped me alot!

David Fournier says:

We have 2005 model. I’m about attempt mine here next week. I just ordered
the metal one..hope its not that big of a deal. I’am also tackling the
window motor issue as well. They had a recall in 2006 that I missed. But
from what I’ve read, you just in plug the harness, and then plug it back
in. It reset’s itself:)

shonieEG6 says:

Common problem… it only cost 200 at my toyota shop

wayoff333 says:

The black panel must be removed to get to the bolt holding the lock
mechanism and shroud for license plate in place.

superdude9847 says:

Great explanation. You helped me fix mine!

David Jacobson says:

David, What was your window doing before? Just not working. Mine has been
broken for years and am about too replace the handle and thought I would
tackle the window as well. Thanks for the comment.

Annie Lozada says:

I used a garbage disposal wrench to open the lift gate. Worked like a charm

Rick S says:

Great video! Also if you dont want to bend a screwdriver etc you can use an
allen wrench. Many of them have a 90* bend in them and it works perfectly
to open the broken latch.

wayoff333 says:

2004 sequoia just had this happen going to try out a part on amazon for $6
🙂

frank buchhorn says:

I Can’t enough about the Video and how helpful it was! Great job on it…I
ordered my Steel Handle from Ebay for 16.00 and it took me 1.5 to fix it,
Had No problems……And this handle opens so much better then the Plastic
handle you buy from Toyota……

Lucio Acosta says:

All you have to do is remove those rubber plugs and remove 2 of those 10mm
bolts to get to handle, you don’t have to remove that panel, way too much
work.

David Fournier says:

Thanks for great video! Fixed not only my broken latch, but while I was in
there fixed the stuck window motor as well. Now I have a metal latch and a
back window that rolls up & down. Thanks again I’d buy you a beer or two
because you saved me a few dollars.

Mary Curtis says:

The last 10mm nut is easy to remove. Take out the rubber access grommet and
use an extension on a ratchet to remove.

Michae Allen says:

I replaced the handle but now the trunk will not lock. All of the other
doors lock but the trunk stays unlocked. I tried to see if I didn’t plug
something in, but I didn’t say anything.

jammanj says:

Drop the window about 2”. Follow the video to get to the point where the
black panel with the 8 screws is removed. Remove 4 nuts holding the window
electric motor bracket, raise the bracket slightly until you can see the
inside of the latch. Remove clear plastic housing over the latch. Make sure
you unlock the vehicle again with the remote since it locks automatically.
Use needle nose pliers to pull the cable behind the latch at the same time
apply pressure on the rear door to open it.

Sean Dotson says:

There are rubber grommets on the inside of the gate back plane that line up
with the hard to get to 10mm bolts that hold on the latch assembly. Pull
these out and it’s quite simple to get to them. Thanks for the tutorial.

fjb425 says:

Nearly every time I pull down on the bar to release the latch mechanism, it
locks all the doors on the car and the latch will not open! This on a 2005
model. Some kind of anti-theft feature I’m running into? Even when it
doesn’t do that, I still cannot pull the bar down enough to unlatch the
gate. Any ideas?

Kathy Hawkins says:

Thank you! My latch had broken 3 times so before I plopped down the
$300.00, I googled it and found your video. My brother and I watched it no
less than 10 times during the process but it works! My latch is working and
now that I have the all metal piece I feel confident that it will not break
again. Thank you very much!

thomas romo says:

i had same problem.so what i did was the part that the tip of the tension
wire with ball on tip of it i bent the bracket up until it pulled more
tension on wire it works good..hope it helps

Chipo Cludo says:

Thank you for the video! It surely has saved us hundreds of dollars. God
bless!

Ben Frick says:

Along with the tutorial, this tip was awesome. With a socket extension, it
made it easy to get to these two bolts. Got my *metal* (not Plastic)
replacement latch on Amazon for less than $20.

Excellent video, saved me 300.00. Completed in less than two hours,Thanks

SilverWolf45 says:

Great vid remove the spring and two bolts to the window stopper per tsb so
that when the window stops working you will be in good shape

charles darwin says:

Good video… @Chris look for ‘handle assy back door’ bought brand new at
dealer for 75, I wish I had thought of Ebay… I’m half way through right
now… Part # 69090-0C080

wayoff333 says:

@lucio yes you do need to take the black panel off in order to get the bolt
holding the lock mechanism in place. I just did this on a 2004 sequoia
30mins ago took an hour, had no issues. Handle Plastic molding Black cover
( 8 bolts) 2 black plugs (2 bolts) 1 bolt holding lock (for outer key)
License plate shroud pops off 2 screws holding handle in place Easy as pie
🙂

Don M says:

Here’s a tip most of us forget because our rear window does not work:
Remove the nuts that hold the motor assembly and the window will slide in
the tracks. Sliding the motor assem and window down makes it easier to
access the two handle nuts.
