Ok what if car turns on but it won’t past 2rpms the idle drop n turn off?

Jim Rivers says:

I plan on replacing the ECT in my Camry, due to idling poorly and hesitation or stumbling on acceleration. The car appears to me to run hot, although the temp sensor in the car shows below medium heat.

It says in my Chilton manual to apply Teflon tape to the sensor to ensure no leaks, also use a metal washer between the sensor and engine.

Since this part is so cheap like 15-20 bucks I don’t mind replacing it. Trying to eliminate the possible causes.

Thank you so much for this video!! You saved me so much trouble and money! Can’t thank you enough!!!!!!

giovanni sanchez says:

I have the same engine shown on the vid

giovanni sanchez says:

I don’t know if I may have the coolant temp sensor or the iac sensor bad. My car idles a little lower than 700rpms and it shakes a lot. I tried loosening up the bolt by the distributed cap to adjust idle but it did not help at all. Wether I am in park or move to reverse or drive it seems to shake a lot. I checked the motor mounts and it isn’t it. Is it maybe a vacuum leak?

jose silva says:

What can you do if that part brake off the engine?

carlos liriano says:

dude you forgot to put the washer back on the sensor lol

I was replacing the starter on my 1993 Corolla and the wrenches I was using broke my coolant sensor. Just letting you know that yes, it is a 19mm wrench for those that care for details. The adjustable wrench you used will work fine.

Hi, Jordan
I’m trying to located the thermostat in my 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr automatic FWD, do you happen to know where it’s located at????

1WBROCKSTAR says:

Temperature sending unit…..I gotcha dude,understood

Fixbook says:

I’m not a fail proof source of info. My apologies to stev.

1WBROCKSTAR says:

You gave Stev wrong info….the ect sensor has nothin to do with his temp gauge on dash….The ect is strictly for tellin ecu how hot/cold the coolant is so it can adjust air fuel ratio,etc…..he should replace sending unit for his temp gauge

Fixbook says:

Wow, I’m sorry you had to spend all that money. For that much I’d a drove up there, from NC, and fixed it myself lol. Thanks for sharing your story, and I’m glad I could help. God bless you guys.

Fixbook says:

Oh, I see. Thanks

speedytang4 says:

I think if you open the rad cap, coolant wont gush out cuz you released the pressure out of the system

gingerbreadgirleve says:

Its running good as long as I start it every couple hours lol. So we just went to auto zone and got the coolant sensor its freezing cold here in jersey and my husband put it in and the dam car just started abd stayed running for the 1St time this winter !! Wish I googled this $1, 100 dollars ago Your my hero! !! Title your videos fixing cars for dummies. Going to kick my mechanics azz tommorow !! Thanks from a jersey girl !!

gingerbreadgirleve says:

My 94 camry has been to two garages 1st diagnosis was a $700.00 safety switch. Nope cant be that because my car does start. Towed it to the second garage them idiots replaced my distributor that everyone said was fine! Im running out of money and im a woman so now I google my symptoms and your video comes up. Below 40 DEGREES my car starts then after one minute stalls I wait one minute try again the idle gets high and shaky repeat numerous times and as soon as hot air comes out of my car its

Fixbook says:

Jordan’s helper: I hope this video helps you in your search to fix the problem. Thanks for commenting

Fixbook says:

Jordan’s helper: possibly, but i am not sure.

I have a 92 Camry with about 165K miles. It runs okay for a short period of time then it starts dumping tons of fuel into the engine… So much that it poor out white gasoline smoke and if I leave it running like that for a few minutes, liquid gas will start seeping from the exhaust. I’ve changed everything except the ECU and coolant temp sensor.

Dan OLOONEY says:

hi my 92 Camry will start when its nice out, the throttle is really touchy bogs all the time,i checked out the fuel pump seems ok, could this be the reason its miss firing or is their a list? thanks for the vid, it turns over

Fixbook says:

Without knowing anything else, I can’t answer that.

TheJrc1980 says:

1999 toyota solara idle problems can this work?

Stev Cota says:

i just bought one from autozone, and it still couldn’t fix the problem. any other suggestion?

Fixbook says:

That sounds like your ect, engine coolant temperature, sensor has to be bad.

Stev Cota says:

i have a 92 honda civic lx. my temperature gauge goes up all the way to the red right after i start my engine or turn my ignition on II even i left my car cool over night. any suggestion?

Fixbook says:

I’m not 100% sure, but I do think it can cause some kind of shifting problem if memory serves me right. I should have said something about it in the video.

edbrown52 says:

my 94 corolla wont shift in to overdrive on cold days(below 40) until i drive it several miles. on normal temp days it shifts just fine. at the time it started doing this the temp gauge on my dash started staying on the “c” all the time. its also using more gas than before. could a bad ecs be the cause of this.does it have control of the trans shifting ?

hp11208 says:

Ok,one of the o2 sensor is usually called the heat sensor.

Fixbook says:

Yeah, I just looked it up. I think your right. ECT engine coolant temperature sensor.

Fixbook says:

I thought it was called the heat sensor idk, I’ll look it up real quick.

hp11208 says:

isn’t that the coolant temp sensor?
