Hi AMD! Again love the Live Q&A. Thanks for doing them. I have a question as I was looking at my PSF (low and dirty). I was looking for the ATF Dexron II or III as recommended in the owners manual and cannot find it. Is Dexron VI okay to use? My vehicle is a 2007 Tundra Limited 5.7 with 195k miles. Last Power Steering fluid "exchange" was Dec 2017 155k miles by a Dealer.

Hi Car Care Nut. I just purchased a 2022 Avalon w/o navigation. My question is about the radio. When I start the car within 30 seconds I get a 2" tall black banner with a message " application download error. Please try again later" I click to OK button and it disappears for 30 seconds and comes right back. I do notice on the infortainment screen that at the bottom left corner is a "downloading" icon. The dealer I purchased it from is 2.5 hours away and IF they answer the phone are no help at all. My local dealer wants to keep the car for 24 hours so his tech can diagnosis it. Are you aware of a "boot" procedure that I can do myself and fix this issue. I am frustrated as H*** and the car has 300 miles on it and I cant see the radio thru the banner. Help! Thanks

Try not to laugh Car Care Nut but can you do an opinion on the Toyota Yaris? I’m referring to the Made in Japan Yaris.

My assumption is that pulling the discussion on the key fob video was the result of getting unanticipated feedback. If so, I would ask you to consider the source of that kind of discontent. It's not just an economic issue, although that was the thrust of your argument. It's about human agency. It's about a lack of choice, given that this subscription model can be seen as an initial foray into a situation where we end up having increasing "sunk cost" (since such features migrate down, over time, into even the base models) in a system that eliminates ownership and control, on the individual level. In its place, we have a permanent "tax," a perpetual revenue stream that turns all of us into digital sharecroppers. (This is the overt goal of other auto companies, such as Tesla, Stellantis, Ford and GM, which imagine themselves as tech companies, collecting rent into infinity while harvesting data).

It's a situation (frought with problems) that the novelist and tech critic Cory Doctorow explored in a recent short story, "Unauthorized Bread." He discusses the ideas and trends that led him to write that story, a story relevant to this key fob issue, at Google (of all places). Here's the link: https://youtu.be/xvbusjDOspQ

One more questions, on 2010 Camry 4 cyl, 140,000 miles should the power steering fluid be replaced and if yes is there a Toyota brand available? Thanks again for your assistance.

Kolohe says:

Are Lexus 2020 ES300H and Avalon wiper refills interchangeable? Txs.

Ankit Bhatia says:

Love your videos! Yes it is fine to charge for the app to access those extra features. However it is not okay to disable a feature on your physical keyfob because you didn't pay for the app. Make key start a dealer option (not the app) and let the customer have it for life. If the customer wants the added feature of the app then they have to pay.

Is it really worth it to spend the extra dollars on synthetic oil if you are only doing 5000-mile oil changes instead of the factory-recommended 10,000 miles? Seems like a waste. Back in the day, we used to run the old mineral oil for 5K without any problems. Of course, they were small-block Chevys and not the "modern" engines of today.

Richard OBannon says:

Nobody has addressed the maintenance schedule for people that live in there Prius and don't drive long distances? I went ahead and changed my oil in my 2013 Prius @ 6 months with only 1100 miles and my fuel cost dropped .24 cents per night , that means that if I change it every 6 months the oil change for me is free. Do you know any other info for things I should do to make my car last as long as possible??

30:33 Interesting tip about the steering column rattle issue! It is apparently an issue for Venzas too, and I was on the lookout for any hints of it while buying ours. Luckily I don't have the issue, but it's good to be aware of things to try for those who have this misfortune.

Wael Soliman says:

Please your recommendation can I use advance full synthetic oil for my Toyota RAV4 hybrid 2016 123k mileage already on it.
Thanks in advance

Hi AMD, im waiting for my 2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid. Im planning to keep this car for a long time. I live in Canada and winter is brutal, do you think it is a good idea to have a petroleum based rust proofing? Same as i do on my other car which is conventional gas engine Does it affect the hybrid technology, battery, sensors? Is it safe? Thanks.
