Toyota is well aware of this issue with the Valley Plate/Coolant leak. It's an inevitable repair and a guaranteed $1,300+ job for all 3UR-FE's. There should be a campaign started on this for recall. We should raise it and get everyone compensated and taken care of for this!

@luayluay3263 says:

You are really doing a great job and videos can you make one about 4 runner problems and how to fix them and if there is any noise in the engine

@IB-hn5ce says:

AMD installed the driver's side cam tower at 41:12 with, apparently, no sealant on the cylinder head. Was the sealant applied to the cam tower instead?
On the passenger side, I can't see how the sealant was applied in the wrong place at 40:11. As an amateur motorcyclist though, working on my own engines, I would have spread the sealant with my finger to cover the entire sealing surface on both sides of each external hole. Of course, I have plenty of time.

I have a 2014 that had the tensioner issue at about 70k. I added Seafoam to oil over span of 3 oil changes or 15k miles and it worked!!! no more chain slap now have 125k and all is quiet on the western front .

@owenfrazier says:

I remember a video you made a while back talk about the differences between the 5.7 in the Sequoia and Tundra vs the Land Cruiser. Do these same issues happen in the Land Cruiser?

@dustin9967 says:

Unrelated, but we just bought a ‘24 Sequoia. Can you do a quick vid on the Hybrid intake filter inspection? I see it at 5k maintenance interval and want to be sure I’m doing this correct.

@chief1193 says:

I think a B lot of these problems with the 5.7 is the thin oil recommendation 0w20. When I was station in Bahrain and Dubai, the Land Cruiser 200 is very popular and they run 20w50 and they have so many on the road with over 300k and they never have these problems. You can you tube search “ Land Cruiser oil change in Middle East” and watch them putting 20w50 oil in these engines.
I bought a 21 LC and I run 5w40 in it.
But that .0w20 is nothing but manufacturers meeting the US CAFE regulations. This same engine in other parts in the world recommend 15w40 in this engine.

@messierthirtyone777 says:

Could you please review the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander?

@willieshiraishi8054 says:

Aloha from hawaii amd, if I may ask what is the type of tape you’re using to cover the intake ports on the cylinder head?

@mikefoehr235 says:

My Tundra is a 20. Will i expect to have this problem someday? My truck has 52 000 kilometres and have already had 4th oil change. I change oil every 10 000 kms. I know clean oil is crucial for the VVT system and of course all other components. I really love the power of the 5.7 and if driven conservative it isnt that bad on fuel. I also beleive it will out perform the TTV6 in towing with respect to towing. When turbos are providing boost, engine will guzzle fuel.

@dustin9967 says:

Great work. With all the stuff you took apart, would it be easier to lift the cab off of the frame?

@jakesmith-northfloridabamb2591 says:

Hey brother, we love your videos. They are a blessing and very helpful.
My mom just bought a used 2017 RAV4 and the map lights don’t come on with the door setting, but the on function works.
Is it a simple fix with a dealership scan tool?

@Eddiemoney193 says:

you were not lying when you said most technicians call off when this job comes up, even your assistant went home sick, lol. But great video.

@bendino9016 says:

dang. my 2011 silverado doesnt even tick at 240k miles. original drivetrain never been touched except fluids. afm engine too.

@johnporreca3494 says:

I wonder what the mileage was on this engine. Considering the vehicle is at most 8 years old it was probably 120k miles? That's a costly repair for such low mileage.

@StephenSmith-it5zy says:

Fantastic video!

Question: Did Toyota update/correct the design of the driver’s side chain tensioner you installed or did you just install a new tensioner with the same design?

Thank you again for a great video.

@EnriqueGarcia-zh6ie says:

Whats the difference between the grey and black Sealant? I only saw on the Toyota website they had a black for oil and orange for transmission fluid

@davidleane7830 says:

I reckon that's pretty good value for 5k. To get all those problems fixed and drive for years now instead of buying a new vehicle it's money we'll spent. I wouldn't like to be paying anyone else to do the job though. Can you imagine the recurring problems if you sent it to a dealership and payed a mechanic 150$ hr that still has pimples to work on it.

@haroldbrown1674 says:

Is the “clear flood mode” recommended for Toyota cars?

@donk499 says:

I dunno…. Is this VVTI stuff worth all this complication, leaks, etc? This design just seems prone to leaks, hard to avoid it. I never thought about the cam towers adding another layer of sealing to this complex equation as well. Almost seems like even the factory can't even get it right on a brand new engine. I guess I understand why the Toyota tech might call out sick when they see this job on the roster. Plenty of experience is a must for gettting this job right for sure. I can only imagine how a tech would feel if he saw this truck pull back into the service bay a few days/weeks after he completed this operation. Don't get me wrong, CCN's repair bill is probably a bargain for getting this job done "right". But, imagine owning one of these and having to spend 5K just to fix a few coolant and oil leaks along with replacing one tensioner solenoid. CCN's advice is spot on, just cleaning off the engine a few times a year is probably the best advice… Except for the coolant valley leak, you can't ignore that one.

5200 is less than i spent on my 2010 dakota keeping it on the road

@kirby9500 says:

Hi, I have 2015 toyota prius. I am getting an error that says hybrid system malfunction. would you be able to help me?

@matticusmac6452 says:

Awesomely done vid and a great truck! One thing that i dont see on these Chicago rigs, is oil undercoating with fluid film or NH oil uc, it will save your vehicles!!! Not sure why he is using high mileage oil, owner mentions in his post, im at almost 350k miles on my 100 series land cruiser and use regular mobil 1 full synthetic, as soon as u use high mileage it inflames the seals and so on.

@henrycamacho7723 says:

How do you know if you have a leak in that area?

@lbrown7164 says:

This is sad because what sets Toyota apart from Honda and Subaru is the V8 ;-( what are your thoughts on the flex fuel V8 that they put in the Sequoias and Tundras ?

@stout890 says:

Dear car care Nut,
Id love to be able to pick your ear about a engine gremlin I have been chasing in my 1999 Tacoma 3rz-fe for the last 10 years. so far i have changed the entire engine and the issue remains. its an intermittent power loss issue accompanied by what I believe to be pinging as the engine bogs under lack of power and transmission shift issue's as well as a poor idle. no check engine light at all ever on the old engine or the new. when the issue is not present the truck makes me smile and is a joy to drive but when the issue arises it is like a sick dog struggling to get up and move. fuel consumption is way up I'm at 14 mpg last check. the coolant system used to over pressurize. the issue presents at first start almost every other start, yet is can also come and go during a single drive. it usually presents in a single drive after a long steady drive than stop at a light and the idle slowly keeps dropping and getting rough, than if i floor it and drive like a nascar driver (usually after passing someone, and i have to floor it cu of lack of power) it shifts at redline during these moments but after this it usually drives fairly normal again but maintains the poor idle. also all these issues go away and it drives amazing so I feel as though its not permanent damage to the engine, something that can be repaired.
