As an electronics person – I can tell you that the computers mostly go bad due to degradation of the electrolytic capacitors. Occasionally other stuff goes bad, but 4 of 5 times you can recap and be good.
I recently had to change the starter on my 2012 Chevrolet Sonic (my everyday car is a 2024 Corolla now). That's a very hard starter to do. I was sure to follow the diagnostic procedure to be sure it was the starter before I did it. I had checked all of the fuses in the two fuse boxes. After I was done with changing the starter, all was well—except for the HVAC controls not lighting up.
Thinking logically, I knew it had to be something I touched. I went and got a pictorial diagram of the fuse box and checked them one by one. What do you know, fuse #18 is missing. Looking at the diagram it says "HVAC". Sure enough, I put the proper fuse in there and the panel now lights up. Sometimes you have to retrace your steps to make sure of your work.
The point is, try to think logically and think the problem through. Forums and videos can be helpful, but use them as a tool, not always as an absolute solution to a problem.
