Building a Brand New Toyota Engine from Scratch

Building a Brand New Toyota Engine from Scratch

We build a brand new Toyota engine from scratch. The engine we’re building in this video is a first generation 2AR-FE 2.5L Inline 4 engine.

This is the only way to get a brand new original long block from Toyota. In boxes and some assembly required.

The car this engine is going into is a 2010 Toyota Camry SE which is greatly loved by it’s owner. The original engine suffered oil loss and sent metal debris throughout requiring a complete engine replacement. The owner of the car requested that we build a brand new long block for their beloved Camry and so we did!

My 2010 has that infamous VVT rattle the first 2 seconds on start up. I was wondering what all should I get to completely eliminate it. So get a new chain, guides, tensioner and Intake cam gear and that should be it right or is there anything else you recommend. Engine runs great otherwise.

GREAT VIDEO!

@rosecoloredglasses-logan says:

It takes a special skill and expertise to achieve this. Great job!

I found this video because my mother gave me her 2011 RAV-4 AWD after my wife’s car got totaled.

I paid almost 4K to have the valve cover gaskets and timing cover gasket replaced at my dealership.

5k later, the VVT rattle began… (I’m assuming after watching your video.)

If I’d known this was a common issue. I would have had them replace the VVTI gear… now I feel like I got ripped off. Wished my tech warned me about this common issue before hand.

Today I learned that some engines have a baffle to stop gurgling! Never ever have I heard of that!

DID I JUST WATVCH THIS MAN BUILD AN ENGINE WITH A TOURQUE WRENCH AND KETCHUP BOTTLE? AMAZING
He gives sound advice

Amazing video. Thank you for sharing the process!

@PitchforkPeasant1969 says:

26:14 doesnt oiling bolts affect your torque values? Ive been told on average to reduce torque 20% using antiseize. Never given a value for oil

There's something therapeutic watching this

Excellent video, I was an electronic Tech for a number of years before moving into management. I’ve never watched this process before, very interesting and educational for me! Auto techs today, have to be schooled in the mechanical process and also be electronic techs to understand the computer control system. People like you are hard to find, like doctors, some are very good, some are average, and some are bad. You sir are Top Notch, very good !

@zimmermanlandscape9287 says:

Why did you start tightening the oil pan in the center and work outward in a star pattern?

@jasonrawls007 says:

Wife wants to know why am I watching this at 1:00 am on a Saturday night? IYKYK

@jeffwalther says:

Our daughter needed a new engine for her Hyundai. We just left the car with the Honda dealer.

@ThatRetroGuy5 says:

Why they didn’t get new Upper oil pan and the chain tension pulley.

@derekdoble4438 says:

Alumabrite acid for aluminum wheels works nice for cleaning up aluminum parts to get rid of that oxidation

@garykinard7553 says:

16K, I love my 2006. But when the engine or transmission goes the truck goes.

@meirassis says:

Asalam uAlicum, just wonder there is no valve adjustment ?

@gene8172 says:

This how I do my oil change. Take out the engine, turn it upside down for easy access tot e filter housing.

@lanceridings8513 says:

The way you oil the bold threads before dropping them into the holes virtually guarantees you're going to get oil between the head gasket and deck surfaces. Is that okay? I know it's mostly using clamp pressure to seal, but is some oil between the surfaces really tolerable?

@alanfairclough3427 says:

I used to work on aircraft engines, Quite different from automotive, I used to apply copperkote or neversieze to the treads of bolts to make sure they will be easy to get out in the future, I notice you only use oil. Is there a reason?

@jimcatanzaro7808 says:

I would only rebuild a non computer engine , why cars in the future will be tracked and manually computer controlled
What am I saying the government can just shut your car off one day
Or control how many miles you do and it’s all computer controlled
I have a 1970 GMC with all points no computer controlled and coils and have all back up parts
Also my Speedo is disabled and just have rpm tac to speed. Also the truck doors and cabin are armored with 1/2 hard steel.tires are run flats 3/4 steel bumper plow that’s easy to disco along with steel windshield cover and side windows
It does have 1/2 steel underneath of all of the body
It’s a heavy duty truck that is powerfull and long range 700miles without external tanks
The built cost is under 26k with steel hand built

@RadomKidsareme000 says:

SOOO much FIPG! heavy lines

@thomaskunz8029 says:
