In this episode of DIY WILLY we start to reassemble the diesel engine. First I’ll clean all the stud holes and prep the new gasket for install. Putting the head back on, which proved to be a difficult task by myself as the samurai is tall and the engine is at an angle due to my drive way. But I got it done by climbing inside with the engine to get a better angle. Torqueing the bolts was a bit of a chalenge but I got it done. I did however miss place some of that footage and in the video go from installing the new head bolts to putting the 90 degree angle on them. I did not show the full torquing process. However I’ll explain the process. First: Torque all bolts to 33ft lbs twice, then to 44ft lbs twice and following it up with the 90 degree turn. In the next video of the Samurai Repair I will be reinstalling the fuel system and accessories

Adjustable Torque Wrench
1/2″ Breaker Bar
12 point VW socket for studs
