I had this problem i just disconnected the solenoid in the steering column by the ignition so it wont lock the key in.

Dude! I was halfway thru fixing it and didn’t even bend the little metal tab thingy and had to move car. The key works 100% of the time now after getting progressively worse for months.
Just opening up the center console must’ve jiggled something the right way that was preventing sensor from working.

First check your battery. If its low the same thing happens. Just charge your battery. Do this first. It could save you all this work for nothing.

Thank you so much for making this video, saved me a lot of time and money. One tip I would say is to not pull up on the fabric of the emergency brake boot. Mine ripped. Use a butter knife or flathead screwdriver to pry it up.
anyone have a link to the part number? can't seem to find it. i bent the tab up and still can't get key out. i think the switch is bad.
