This is how to easily remove a stripped cam bolt without drilling, cutting, or damaging the cam gear on a WRX or STi.

Doesn’t the heat from that warp the head in any way?
It’s hot bud, no touch.
This tip saved me and our shop a world of shit. Thank you
I want this mechanic working on my car. He seems like he enjoys cars and
working on them.
I just bought the Killer B Oil Pickup tube from you guys last week! 😀
Good idea, I having my own issue with my ’99 Outback cam bolts (17MM Hex).
Manual shows them, being loosened with a socket wrench and a large
arc-joint pliers. I’ve tried with a breaker bar on it and the crank pulley,
it won’t budge. Thing is I don’t weld and the closest shop is 39 miles
away. Tried my electric impact wrench but it’s kind of whimpy. I guess I’ll
keep trying.
Thanks sooooo much! Someone has red loctited my cam bolts in and I have
stripped them all 🙁
I love these guys, They have been walikng me through my first suby swap via
the telephone. Great help solid people
Was that bolt hot?
I feel sorry for people that don’t have welders. There was a CV shaft stuck
in a transmission (no room for a slide hammer, the attachment wouldn’t fit
behind the stub anyway) so I welded a nut to it, threaded the slide hammer
in, then out it came. There are so many stripped, broken, bent, etc. issues
that can be solved with welding. It is under-utilized and over-looked.
John THANK YOU! You saved me a lot of time drilling. I duplicated your
method (right down to the welder brand) and it WORKED AWESOME! I’m doing an
04 STi with the two different pulleys so I go the bottom one off like yours
and from there I could get a holding tool onto the other to remove it using
a breaker bar. Thanks again and God bless!
Straight to the point and live action. : o )
Excellent job. Great vid!!
Haha. Dropped it pretty quick.
Good work guys its hard to find a good mechanic anymore ..
Good tip, especially if you have a welder and know how to weld
Really! I use a regular Allen tool with the impact gun to remove those, one
was stuck pretty bad, so I took off the valve cover and grabbed the
camshaft with a big wrench while a friend took off the bolt with an Allen
socket! There’s no need to ruin those bolts IMO
John, you are a genius. I would have never thought of that. You sure do
know what you are doing. GREAT WORK!!! You got straight to the point in 3
minutes instead of 10 minutes of trash talk or something irrelevant. If I
needed a mechanic that can do a job that I couldn’t I would definitely go
to you. Liked and Subscribed!!!
