It is all done and it works like a beauty, all thanks to you, good news is
when I know it is you walking across the road I will actually swerve around
you, I think they need to make this stuff an olympic sport, I would watch
that ??

BoostedVW says:

Nah that was my old EJ22, running an EJ254 now with those EJ22 heads on it.

BoostedVW says:

Hey mate, what year and model engine are we talking? the early SOHC are
good as they are non interference, but all the later ones (generally after
97) are interference so its possible to bend the valves if its turned over
with the belt off (hard to bend turning by hand). It should be ok even if
it is interference though as it would have been aligned when you took the
belt off so wont be real far out. A socket on the cam gear to bring it back
into line should do the trick

That engine going in that bug?

ciafrei59 says:

nice cat bro does he change ur oil for ya?

BoostedVW says:

@viggoM35 sounds like he was more an old school mechanic? more used to
engines with one cam and pushrods lol.

Ade O'Maolain says:

is this same as EJ251?

SuperBmxbadass says:

Thanks i found it the other day and it helps. I finally got mine ej22
running. (:

ThatDubstepGuy1996 says:

hey mate is that an ej18?

Ade O'Maolain says:

muchas grassy arse – great vid

BoostedVW says:

@OversoulSovereign yea, cheap shitty camera and me panning around too fast.

BoostedVW says:

The tensioner will be a little different but aside from that yep same
process.

SuperBmxbadass says:

Where did u put your radiator??

paycom1 says:

Thanks for this, I started watching some well meaning dick from the USA but
he failed to mention taking off the other two little pulleys so
consequently there has be a bit of blood and swearing going on until I can
back inside and found your post

BoostedVW says:

used to, that’s my old EJ22. got an EJ25 in there now.

viggoM35 says:

You wouldn’t believe the crap I’m dealing with??? After a friend (retired
mechanic) replaced this timing belt and pulleys, he didn’t bother to
replace the leaking cam and crank seals while in there. So they come to me
to do the job and he stripped out two pulley bolt holes I had to helicoil
and over stressed another pulley bolt and it broke off. He even over
tightened the nut that holds the pulley for the AC belt tensioner. Needless
to say, the timing belt will be easy to reinstall. lol

BoostedVW says:

Ha, nah she’s 19 years old and just gets in the way

BoostedVW says:

lol! yea sounds better than anything currently olympics related

Peter Wuwei says:

I got motion sickness watching the video cuz the camera moved around so
much and so fast.

BoostedVW says:

Check my video from march this year about my cooling system, its all in
that.

jpatt1000 says:

Thanks for the super video! I’ve rebuilt engines with timing chains, but
the belts on my Alfas and X1/9 scare the hell out of me. (Mainly the
tensioner!) Thanks for going through that bit! (I think I just need someone
looking over my shoulder the first time to tell me “yes that way” or
“that’s not right”.) Even having the factory manuals is no substitute for
having someone with you that’s done it before, but this video took some of
the fear away. Thanks!

BoostedVW says:

Don’t worry, I went through the same crap the first time which was why I
ended up putting this up. A lot of little tricks the workshop manuals don’t
tell you.
