How To Install Auxiliary Battery In Subaru Outback Wilderness | Key Line Isolator

Need more power inside your Subaru Outback Wilderness? In this video, we talk about installing a key line isolator switch and how I installed an auxiliary battery in the spare tire well inside our Subaru Outback wilderness. This can be done for any vehicle in the same way.

Ignacio Giddings Mex says:

There is any issue with the smart alternator system??

Teresa hikes says:

could you just not use a marine battery? and charge it when not in use

Will Eells says:

Little bit of an ocd question. Do you find your car sits a tad higher on right front? Was thinking of upgrading suspension and keep seeing a slightly higher ride height only of passenger front when I measured. Its very slight. 1/4 inch or less.

Thomas Uzarski says:

Question what size front runner box you use in the spare tire hole?

Waiting for my '23 OBW. October. I'm freaking dying here….

Thank you for the video, I wanna install dual batteries in my 16 outback

Abe Rolick says:

bear in mind, if you're driving down the highway and the ecu decides to cut the smart alternator output to less than 12.8V, it won't be charging the auxiliary battery at all until the alternator boosts back up to 13.3V.

i'd still recommend a decent dc-dc charger for vehicles with smart alternators to get the benefits of:

1. always charging (no low voltage cut off, can step up or down the voltage from the alternator as needed)

2. limited current output (AGM batteries only like to be charged at about 0.2C-0.3C … so 20-30A for a 100Ah battery, e.g. and it's also easier on the alternator)

3. multi-stage charge profiles (alternators don't usually charge the starter battery up to 100% anyway)

looks good dude. whenever i get around to getting a tire swing im looking forward to taking advantage of all the extra space in the spare tire well! also i'd recommend a dremel or similar for cutting through plastic in the future. much better than using a blade haha
