Jon Robinson says:

So why cant I just drain it out and put the new trans oil in no problem?

ATSGcompany says:

Great instructional video!

JohnQuincyAdams1 says:

Subaru automatic transmissions need Subaru ATF HP, Part no. K0140Y0700 or
equivalent transmission fluid. “Genuine”, Subaru transmission fluid is
manufactured by an oil company that slaps, “Subaru”, labels on the bottles
of automatic transmission fluid. Subaru doesn’t manufacture transmission
fluid. There is no, “T”, in Dexron. Hats off to you for wearing gloves
instead of getting the used transmission fluid on your skin and coming down
with cancer ten years down the road.

Wyrm Bait says:

between 4-5L will come out. TO do it 100% correct you should only put in
what comes out if your oil level was correct at the start.

Steve Andrews says:

OMG r u serious? Please don’t try to do it yourself. But if you do, flush
it with the ols fluid or a cheaper method is to use tap water to flush it.
Good Luck

Steve Andrews says:

Yeah. I haven’t seen many post on Chevy & Ford’s. Most post’s I’ve seen are
on Subaru. But I know Chevy’s & Ford’s are worse. All the complaint’s on
Subaru Trans. are because Subaru owners care more about their vehicle’s
than other car owners.

Steve Andrews says:

Yeah I’d rather spend the $3-4,000. for rebuild myself.

Steve Andrews says:

Yeah it makes sense to change only some of the fluid. Mix old with new.
Cheaper way to go. You can save some money also by only changing two quarts
each time you change your engine oil too. I just put on an oil filter on
the 3rd & final oil change. I change two Qt.s then drive it for a week or
so then chnage two more Qt.s. Then one Qt. on the final change,… with new
filter. Easy quick & cheap

gvblk4yt says:

how often every 30kmiles Thanks We just bought a 2010 with 14k miles

MIKE RATHKE says:

its a subaru, not some piece of crap chevy or ford…the filters dont get
clogged full of shards of metal unless the tranny needs to be replaced for
some od ball reason

BRICEN18 says:

Great Vid !! very clean Forester. have you experienced the 2-3rd gear shift
noise?

Steve Andrews says:

Walmart, Shopko, Farm & Fleet, etc. usually have that $2/qt oil too. So if
you shop smart you can usually save a ton on oil chnages. Along of course
with the three step method.

thunderbox91 says:

how much fluid did you drain out of the sump? ive done it twice and each
time about 4.5l came out

D. Scram says:

What about the tranny filter?

missprincessgirl143 says:

So you do around 3 flushes of the fluid with a short drive in between? Do
you use the same fluid and filter it, or is it a new lot each time? Cheers.

akaTheDevil says:

3 times! That’s a lot of money…

trulymeparker says:

Just change the fluid every time you do the motor oil change. Makes sense
to keep it cleaner

yodalucky7 says:

You need to pump the rest of the fluid out. There’s about 2 quarts left in
another chamber of the transmission.

Wyrm Bait says:

I used the same filter, on the 4 drain i will install new filter. After
each drain you must use new fluid, you mix the new fluid with the old.
After 4 Oil changes you end up with about 15-20% of the old fluid. After
changing my fluid 3 times the color is bright red and not dirty like
before. Gear changes are smoother now.
