SHOULD work, but double check as to whether or not your car has an interference engine. I think the late 2.2L had some modifications to it. If not, most of this should apply.

Hey when your refilling your cooling system the most affective way is park it on a hill engine facing uphill and fill it they are pronound for air locks in the heater core causing it to spike the temp gauge until revs are applied activating the water pump to spin faster in turn cooling the sensor for a moment but the sensors on the top of the motor .. so basically it a air temp reading

I’ve never done a 2.5L timing belt. Probably still pretty straightforward, but the dual cam motors leave no margin for error.

yea i worked on my 93 impreza wagon! the previous owner didn’t service it since 1999, i have literally gained so much more power as the oil was as black as the night sky and the leads snapped as soon as i touched them a little.

Not 100% sure what I put in this video and don’t have 48 minutes to re-watch it. If I covered manual transmission gear oil, you’d instead want to change the automatic transmission fluid (I have a separate video on that). Otherwise, the process would be identical.

Really informative, im 17 and doing my first car service myself with spark plugs and leads, engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter tomorrow. Looks easy enough! Ive done stuff to motorbikes and lawnmowers before so it shouldn’t be too hard. Thanks again for showing the basic principles of what I intend to do!

Once that’s done, if you still have symptoms, change the rear differential oil (if you have AWD). I also have a video on how to do that. If symptoms still persist, something else might be binding in the driveline, or you might have an internal transmission problem. It’s also worth taking a look at the condition of the engine and transmission mounts.

Also, take a look at your overall state of tune. If you have no records, a tune-up might be in order. Sorry I can’t be more help.

Well… flush is the wrong word. I don’t recognize the symptoms you describe, but step 1 is to check the gear oil level at the dipstick on the passenger side of the transmission. That should give you some idea. Either way, I wouldn’t just fill it. I drain it and add new gear oil every 30,000 miles. It’s easy enough to do. You fill through the dipstick hole. I think I have a video on this for the manual transmission. Search my videos. (continued in next post)

I have a 1995 Subaru Legacy LSI (auto trans). I went ahead and changed the transmission filter. What is the correct amount of Trans fluid to put back in there? Local auto parts store said only 4 qts, I believe it to be more than that because it was a ton of fluid that came out. Could you help me out? Right now it has 5 qts in it. Don’t have the drivers handbook.

If your Impreza is 1.8L or 2.2L, it should be close enough. 2.5L, probably different. As for gas mileage, start with the tune-up items and see what happens to mileage.

I don’t set the rear fill plug to a particular torque – just tight. As for the other items, I THINK I did specify torques in the video. I also have some individual videos on most of these items and do try to specify torques. Unfortunately, I really don’t have time to look these up at the moment for you.

Great video, I have a few questions for you. What is the amount of torque needed to tighten the rear differential fill and drain plug? Also, if you don’t mind, the torque specification for the water pump, idler pulleys, and the thermostat housing? If you know please share, and I do appreciate this tutorial.

A great many similarities. The tune-up process should be nearly identical. The only real difference between a 1993 and 1995 EJ22 Subaru is that the 1995 model will be OBDII.
