rich,, the trans mount link or dogbone , am i correct that there are two of
them,,same part number, one under the battery and the other one on the
serpentine belt side?
I replaced the NAPA (Anchor) mount with a factory mount and, wa la, buttery
smooth. I guess the tranny mount and two dog bones can be replaced with
Anchor but not the engine mount.
1995 SL1. Today I replaced the motor mount — sure enough, the old one was
completely compressed and cracked — and the tranny mount — not cracked
but completely compressed — and both dog bone torque struts — they were
both wobbly at the front mount. With visions of buttery smooth engine idle
I cranked it up. Yikes. It had lots of vibrations — way more than before –
especially low end acceleration and deceleration – right thru to the dash..
Is there a break-in period for new mounts?
Rich. 1st of all, thanks for all of your very informative videos. I
followed your guidance and replaced the left dogbone and trans. mount. I
had somewhat of an issue with the trans mount as I was unable to raise the
trans high enough to clear the stud past the frame rail. I ended up cutting
about a 1/4″ off of the stud to clear. The secondary problem is that I am
sensing more vibration being transferred to the body that before at idle.
Any suggestions? I have already R&R’d the motor mount.
Hello richpin06a im having trouble with my car, and i think it the
Transaxle thats making a noise, the noise stops when im goint at a high
speed and goin to a Left turn the nise stops when im goin to the Left it
ge3tmore Louder. i think it the transaxle or something else im not sure,
can you plz help me sure?
looked alright as far as I can tell… no heavy corrosion, no cracks or
dents. Brackets bolts were tight. I was able to reproduce the sound by
prying up the tire while the car’s up on jack stands. seems like it’s
coming from the top strut mount. will have to take closer look up there.
Hey Rich: What is a good indication the transaxle mount is bad? Would the
car have slip or made a thumping sound when shifting in 2-3rd gear? Would
the car slam when in reverse mode? What are the signs that you have a bad
transaxle mount? What
How much play should be in the mount when I pry the trans with a pry bar to
test it? The manual says “not an excessive amount” but how much is that?
It’s an Anchor pos with around 50k on it.
Great videso Rich, was able to do my outter tie rod ends and control
arm/balljoints on my saturn sc2 thanks to your uploads. Much appreciated. I
sometimes get a single pop sound, usually from driver front side, when I
change directions reverse-forward, when the car starts to move, and
sometimes when I hit a big bump. It can be loud sometimes. Initially I
thought it might be tir rod or balljoints. Those helped with steering feel,
but noise still persists. Any idea what else it might be?
Rich, great video, my problem is I have a automatic and cannot jack up the
tranny enough to get the mount out. The tranny hits the frame above, any
ideas?
@richpin06a sorry to bug ya,but if im getting vibration still would you do
the torqe strut or the transaxel mount, its smoth shifting and awesome on
the road just cant get rid of vibration when cold i also think it might be
just the solid mount being stiff..all the vibration is in the passenger
side.thank you
Additional suggetions: for those that are tool and tech savy..Unbolt that
side of the subframeto give you more room to work with it wont fall off or
down too far…just enuf to play with. The subframe gets torqued back to
151 ft lbs. also i suggest torquing the tranny bolts on the mount first
then setting the motor down. tranny bolts gets trqued to 25 ft lbs and the
cradle nut gets 37 ft lbs.

They do the same thing and that is to mainly support the weight.
are motor mounts different than the transmission mounts?
If you ever get your hands on a new one you’ll see why. They are like a
brick. Must have had a much heavier engine in mind.

Most people are not happy with the anchor mount.

You might have to reset the passenger side dogbone like you do when
replacing the top mount.

fluid before doin this?

Do i have to take off the dog bone mount or do what you did and let it
hang?
Not at this time.

@ThebigHurtt I placed the bar between the body and the end of the transaxle.

@Ayosbapre Definitely Reverse Slam, I ran my car like that killed my
transmission
