DarkTetsuya says:

a few days ago mine had just started giving me a ‘drive empty’ error even
though there’s a game in there (I’d been playing a lot since i got it out
of storage a couple weeks ago) think this fix might address that sort of
thing? I hope its not something worse, but this might be worth a shot!

Maxwell Smart says:

I have a question. I’m trying to repair my Model 1 Japanese Saturn, i was
told the motherboard was fried as the laser is still working. I noticed
when you took the top case off there was no wires or PSU connected to the
top case just like mine. But in other videos the MK-8000 top case there was
wires and PSU connected to the top case. Do you know how to identify what
MK-8000 is like yours? I ask because i want to switch the internals of a
working MK-8000 and put it in my HST-3210 Jap Saturn.

Gil Morrison says:

I’m really glad this is helping a lot of people out! Sega Saturns (and
really any first generation CD based consoles are fragile relics. As long
as we can keep them running, history can never forget them.

RetroRepair says:

Really glad you managed to get the beast woring man ^_^

Thomas Derp says:

@GeneralFrankenberry this is a simple fix, my saturn did this too and still
does it sometimes to this day, i actually gave up hope and bought another
saturn for nothing. before even oprning your saturn put in any audio cd,
let 2 or 3 tracks play, then skip trough afew tracks, go back afew, rewind,
fast foward, basically let the laser warm up 4 around 5- 10 mins, then turn
it off and put the game in right away and try it if it dont work try more
times, get fed up, strengthen the laser by opening

GeneralFrankenberry says:

Everytime I put a game in, it plays the audio tracks. The actual game
doesnt load, just the audio tracks as if the Sega thinks its a CD. Do you
know what the problem is or how to fix it? Thanks

Gil Morrison says:

You’re very welcome. Anything I can do to keep old systems running!

gaz61279 says:

Hahaaa nice one mate 🙂 the disk was spinning and the laser was moving
along the rail but no read. Tried this and it’s worked a treat! Cheers!!!

rocknrollhooker979 says:

Hi, just bought a Saturn on Ebay. First Problem is that the Spindel is gone
down like in your video, but second problem is, that the spindelmotor is
not spinning up, even if i try it without the black laser housing, CD is
not spinning up, the access light is blinking the whole time… do you know
what i can do?

rocknrollhooker979 says:

Forget my comment, moved the spindel up and cleaned the laser, Saturn is
working now! Thank you very much!

Jake Friedel says:

If you guys are having this problem my fix is way easier than this… This
will work but my method would have a lot less chance of breaking something
if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Thomas Derp says:

your saturn is killing me… its so dirty 🙁

MiketheGuitarDude91 says:

Thanks for the vid bro My saturn is running like a champ now and i got her
from a Storage Auction xD

jehad78 says:

I really like the North American Model 1 or 2 doesn’t matter but black
consoles look sleek !

rocknrollhooker979 says:

Saturn is running now!!! Spindle is not dead, After i reassembled the
saturn, the cd was spinning again.

bivosacanagi says:

It worked now!

Gil Morrison says:

It’ was cleaned shortly after this video was made. Used a toothbrush,
windex, q-tips and compressed air. You can sleep now.

derangedmuppet says:

Man, My disk wouldn`t even SPIN! Thought for SURE this thing was going to a
shop… (if I could ever even find one that is…) Thanks SOOOO MUCH!! Was
SO Glad to see the Fighters Megamix sign come on that I had to play a quick
game before putting the screws back in!! WOO HOO! GAME ON!

bivosacanagi says:

Thank you for your help.

KingdomChaos says:

hm you sound like another youtuber i watch o_o

redmagician1000 says:

My saturns disc spindal will not spin.

Dirtmurder says:

It worked for me for a minute, I think I may need to screw with the laser
too. By the way, I got Guardian Heroes for 5$ with Tomb Raider, Tetris
Plus, Virtua Fighter, and a couple other games at a garage sale. I had no
idea it was worth upwards of 80$

Gil Morrison says:

Have you tried this yet? Also, there is a link in the video to adjust the
lasers resistance. Another problem might unfortunately be the laser itself
has simply run its life span.

Will2Fabricate says:

I hope you cleaned that saturn after this video.

Gil Morrison says:

The first thing I would check is the ribbon cable from the motherboard to
the laser housing. Then (be careful here) place a piece of tape over the
lid switch and turn the system on. You’ll be able to see if the laser is
doing anything. Turn it off, place a disk on the spindle, turn it on and
watch the laser again. Try cleaning and reseating the ribbon cable.

bivosacanagi says:

Hello When I turn my saturn on, it goes to the checking disc screen.
However, the laser is not moving nor the disk is spinning. What could it
be? Thanks in advance!

MikeyV863 says:

Thanks for the video. Saved my DOA Saturn from Ebay. Bought one off ebay
and less than 3 days later it wouldn’t play discs anymore. I knew there was
no way I messed it up, especially that quick. Now I’m back to playing
Robotica in a matter of minutes. Thanks big time.

Gil Morrison says:

Yup, with a tooth brush.

Strider86x says:

you are a god among men. saved me the trouble of sending it off for repairs.
