Im assuming this was purely for educational purposes, but for anyone else who does attempt to change one or outer tie rods, if you have that much play in your steering rack, check everything around it to determine if the play is internally, or if it's the whole unit moving. Sometimes it'll only need bushings, some cases you would have to replace or rebuild the whole rack. Don't expect new parts to last all that long if they're being installed onto worn components.
