Depends on the manufacturer. Some like GM and Ford do tend to allow the
lighter and power ports to run even when the ignition isn’t in the
accessory (ACC) or ON position, whilst others (Such as Subaru and Toyota)
will not provide power when the ignition isn’t in either of those
positions. Both have pros and cons, such as battery conservation vs being
able to power a device when the ignition is switched off.
Are these outlets supposed to stay on after the car is off? My 2001 SL1
outlet stays on and it bugs the crap out of me. First car that I’ve ever
seen this happen.
I replaced the fuse and it worked but then after I plugged my ipod fm
transmiter it blew the fuse again. What do you think could be the problem?
thanks in advance for the advice 😀
Seems very easy to do. Would it be the same to replace the Cigarette
lighter in a Mercury Villager 2001? My lighter doesnt work with most
devices but with my ipod charges it just makes the charger flash really
fast. Any idea what it could be? Thanks in advance for your advice. 😀
I have a 2005 Mazda3 and need to replace my socket. Would I need a special
socket for my car or would a universal one be ok? I as well have a lighted
ring on the outside. I have looked around the web but can’t find a solid
answer. Please help!!! Thank you.
the lighter in my my 97 saturn wont work…..no heat or charging of my cell
phone at all. I tried to replace the fuse but it blew up when i turned the
ignition on and it was the correct fuse. Would this video fix that? thanks
I have a 2000 chevy malibu(worse car chevy has ever made BTW.But the
lighter and power port do not work.I checked fuses. they are fine. Both are
pugged in.any ideas why they do not work.could lighter and port sockets be
bad.just seems weird that neither of them work.It was like that when I
bought this sorry excuse for a car.I mean it is so low quality it has
turned me from a lifetime time chevy fan to wishing I had a ford
@DeCostable If just getting power to the socket is the problem, buy a cheap
side-by-side wiring tap that you can just crimp on to another wire that
carries voltage nearby. Just check it out that it’s a non-critical power
wire that has enough current carrying capacity to also power the lighter,
then, hook THAT up to the lighter wiring. Basically trying to find a broken
wire in a rat’s-nest wiring harness is a total waste of time….except for
$50/hr pro mechanics that is.

Nice! Thanks man! Did you disconnect your battery before doing this or is
it relatively safe?
Apparently I’m the only one hearing john leguizamo?

The lock fuse on the 96 feeds power to the lighter so i bet there is
something wrong with the lighter.

inside fuse panel which switches off.

For this reason, I am still stuck 🙁

@smithdsmit They could both be bad a simple check with a meter will tell
,don’t forget to check the ground.
