tranny butt u could use the engine and tranny from the other one then sell
the turbo motor and part out the body out and make sum good money 2 if it
wer me thats what i would do 🙂
im sure the tans have teh same bolt patern and use the same axles so i
would just swap the trans over from one car to the together, all that
rusted brake stuff will be more of a PITA to deal with rather than removing
the trans, you might even have to remove the trans mount and drop it down
to even get a new brake line. remember if a brake line is rusted out at the
master cyl. then the rest of the system is probably shot. you will also
need new brake hoses that can be a soft feel as well.
I would swap transmissions if they will interchange or pay $200 for the
used one and keep the other car intact so you can move it around and use it
for parts. I think like everyone else you would have a better car. Good
luck. Rich
well id go with the turbo car but i doubt the non turbos transmission would
hold up to the tourqe of the turbo one its best to get a transmission made
for a turbo and swap it in both cars aint bad looking but if it was me id
just sell em both and get me a 4×4 chevy but thats just commin from a die
hard chevy guy lol
Sure stopped good in fast motion! I like the idea of changing transmissions
more than making new brake lines and whatever else is wrong with the
brakes. You already have a sticker. All the tight squeeze is what would
hinder me, but hey, you’re just a young’un and you obviously have the know
how. I encourage you to go for it! It is a little different than changing
the tranny in my old ’54 Chevy was, on my first exploit of major repairs,
back in the day! Blessings, George
Yea, if it was a ’54 Chevy I’d have it done already. All that new-fangled
stuff, sideways engines and all that, intimadate me, but I suspect once I
do this I’ll be an old pro at it.. hahahaha
Yep, plenty of spare parts to go around.. hahaha.. I ‘spect I got nothing
to lose by pullin’ this baby apart. I’ve got less invested in both cars
than it would cost to buy the tires that are on ’em..
I usually turn that down, but had trouble getting this video to load, and
wound up re-doing it a half dozen times. Probably forgot to turn the music
down the last time.. Oh well.. Thanks.
yeah, but i guess if you can make it work out for the better, then do that.
at least they run, somewhat lol. if you could get a manual tranny that
would probably be your best bet, and thats what i would do. if it doesnt
already have it, put calipers all around. drums are frustrating at times
and if the calipers up front are rusted like that , then the drums are
probably just as bad if not worse, with a manual tranny you wont need
brakes as much, just downshift. hope that helps 🙂
I’d go for the tranny swap. I wonder if you could take the turbo off and
put the exhaust system from the other motor on there? Never dealt with a
turbo so I might be full of it suggesting that lol. Good luck on whatever
you decide and of course keep us posted!
I’ve certainly given that some thought, but since I’ve got these two, I’ve
got nothing to lose except time and effort to try to make them into one
good car, and if that doesn’t work I can still get what I’ve got in ’em for
scrap.. hahahaha..
I suspect I could just swap the whole motor and everything out of the other
car, but think the turbo is fun. It’s awesome to drive with the turbo, and
if it goes out, I’ve got the other motor to swap, so think I’ll just run it
and see what happens..
I’m a die hard Chevy guy too, but I’m not lookin’ for a “good” car, just
one to beat up on the winter roads up here. If you’ve never driven a broken
up two lane road back and fourth to work during the winter, it’s hard to
imagine the beatin’ a car takes. These old Saabs are built like thanks.
They take it better than most cars.
hmmm I think i would swap the transmission. Seems like the black one has
alot less rust then the green one. I am with you on the turbo tho they are
fun Saab ones can be an expensive item to keep up with. Not sure of the
interchangability of the transmissions but i would think it would be a
direct swap?
I figure if I can do this swap, then changing it to a manual wouldn’t be
all that hard. I’ve read online that it’s do-able, and these cars are
fairly cheap. I got by with the 900’s for years, but they’re getting harder
and harder to find now, so I’ll see if I can figure out these 9000’s. Keep
ya posted.

Yea, I think so too… Looking forward to it. Hope the weather is good when
I get home..
@robertdave Mine..
also how much it cost for an inspection

@rpeek I do like the video though. Thanks for making and posting it.
It’s difficult to hear you talk over the banjo music. Who’s idea was the
banjo music?

1992 both of them. 161k on one and 147k on the other.

The calipers are afraid of banjo music and have completely retreated inside
their shell, hence, no braking action.

@birdwing98 I can understand that…
Yep, plenty of spare parts to go around.. hahaha.. I ‘spect I got nothing

Hey just curious – what year’s the 9000, and how many miles are on it?
I usually turn that down, but had trouble getting this video to load, and
wound up re-doing it a half dozen times. Probably forgot to turn the music
down the last time.. Oh well.. Thanks.
cant here you because tha banjos to loud
I don’t know anything about Saabs, but I’m with everyone else. Put the
transmission in the black car.
@robertdave Thank You! In the long run I didn’t wind up doing anything with
either of those Saabs. Sold ’em both. Still got my 900 convertible though.
Great video but the banjo music makes it very hard to understand you.
yeah, but i guess if you can make it work out for the better, then do that.

i bet someone pinched off the line

honestly swap the car
A non turbo tranny will blow when adding to a turbo SAAB, it can’t take the
torque! Try getting a non turbo tranny it’s your best bet.

alright, cool it’ll be interesting to see what happens with this car.
I would do the transmission swap you will have a better car when you are
done.
