How to Fix a Blower Motor on a 2004 SAAB 9-3

Watch me troubleshoot and fix my fan motor on my sons 2004 SAAB 9-3. The fan would not run at all, not make any noise at all. I show you how to check the fuses, check the fan motor to see if it is bound up, and check the electrical connections. I fixed mine, I hope this helps you fix yours!!

You're a life saver! Or at least a nut saver, since mine were about to freeze off! I followed your instructions and it turned out that my blower motor was seized up. After reading about a couple laborious procedures, I found your video and was able to get my heater working in minutes. Just in time for my 40 min drive to work in 20 degrees weather. Thanks for your help sir! I'll post a link to your video on Saabcentral.com for anyone else with this problem.

Where is the heater core exactly located on that same car? I need to replace mine but not exactly sure where it is. Can I get go it by pulling on that weather stripping like you did, or is it in the dash?

Hi Heath – I'm a complete novice and avoid mechanics at all times. This morning on the coldest day here in England this year the blower stopped working!. Didn't fancy another garage bill so tried your video. I can't believe it but after trying the fuse I accessed the fan and moved it a few turns then sprayed some WD 40 on to it and away it went!. Thank you!

Terrific video. Hoping you might be able to help me on another challenge with my 04 9-3 aero. Replaced ballast and bulb of the right hid. Plugged the harness back onto the light fixture and the headlight immediately turned on. No key in the ignition. I verified the light fixture is not the problem as it works fine in the left position. Only way to turn off the light was to pull battery cable. Can you help me? Any ideas?

You seriously rock man! This saved me so much time and most likely money as well on the 2004 SAAB 9-3 I just bought a few days ago. 3 min fix is almost unheard of lol. Thanks buddy!

Douglas Wiegand says:

Don't use WD-40 to lubricate the blower shaft. Its lubricating properties won't last in a motor environment. Instead use an electrical motor lubricant such as 3-1 electrical motor oil ($3.00) at the store). Lubricating the top of the blower shaft through the filter box opening may or may not be sufficient. If the blower is working but making chirping sounds the problem may just as easily reside on the shaft end located on the bottom of the blower motor, which can't be reached form on top and thus might necessitate removing the blower assembly completely in order to relubricate.
