1999 Saab 9-3 SE Convertible – NO START

After a head gasket replacement, my car will still not start. The timing looks ok (the exhaust camshaft might be off by one tooth) There seems to be fuel get…

Niklas Bergsten says:

Oh yeah, I can hear a lack of compression. :S

jeffel80 says:

you need to learn to fucking spell…

Christian Fox says:

i think my head gasket is starting to leak. how hard is it to change. i
have the exact same car and i can see oil leaking out by the timing cover
or head gasket. how long did it take you

Richard Pearson says:

In this video I had 2 problems: The first was bent valves. You can test for
bent valves very easily. Get a compression tester $20-30 at kregan and test
each cylinder. If any of them have really low PSI than it is likely bent
valves especially if more than one has very low PSI. I had 0PSI in all 4
cylinders. The second thing that was broken was my Direct Ignition
Cassette. This you should have a backup anyway so search for a used one on
the internet for cheap. I got one for $80.

opsgraduate says:

dude have u tried looking at ur crank positioning sensor? cause i put two
grand in my car before finding out that was a problem

Gabriel Horak says:

Hey Man Had the Same Prob with my 21 9-5 aero-s conversion. I broke a valve
and my lifters are bad. Might want to pull off the cams and the gears and
check the pressure on the valves and lifters.

zsmh102 says:

Remove the front timing cover and check the timing chain a thous plastic
parts for some broken and cracks

Christian Fox says:

does the motor have to be pulled or the timing cover removed. definately
head gasket leak. looks like i have a job ahead of myself!!

imOuttie87 says:

@rpearson So in this video you had bent valves? Or this was after? Sorry I
just really need some help.

jeffel80 says:

exactly my thought

imOuttie87 says:

Same exact sound my car is making. I was also guessing bent valves. Was
this your problem?

Christian Fox says:

well after further inspection definately head gasket. does the motor have
to pulled or the does the timing cover have to be off? looks like i have a
project ahead of me!!

Richard Pearson says:

Oh, if you have bent valves I may have an extra cylinder head with good
valves and has already been resurfaced that I could sell. Let me know.
Good Luck! Let us know what happened.

Richard Pearson says:

@blogdog78 So it took me a while but it is only about a 10 hr job or so.
Anyway, I would suggest finding out the source of the leak before replacing
your head gasket. The valve cover gasket is super easy to replace and takes
maybe 10-20 min so if you were just going to guess, that might be what to
do first before doing the head gasket. Do that first and tell me how it
goes…

Richard Pearson says:

My problem was at first bent valves due to repeated timing adjustments
without regard to the position of the crankshaft. I fixed that problem by
buying a new head and and paying attention to the timing. I got compression
but no start still. I then checked for spark and did not have spark either.
I changed my DI Cassette and the thing fired right up. Good luck!

mushere2k9 says:

theres no compression whatsoever in that motor, pull the head back off,
take the head to a machine shop and ask them if they can check if its
warped, did it ever overheat? but either way, theres no compression, you
can hear it.:’)

Alex Lisyuk says:

sound like u have no kompresher

goigoitoy says:

did u try looking at the crank position censor?

platinumbenzman says:

did you get it started?

Wilber Rodriguez says:

Bitch,, Mi idioma no es el tuyo maldito imbecil … asi q por mi puedes
tragar mierda hijo de puta ….

Wilber Rodriguez says:

What idiot,, u don’t put tha fucking sparks that is the fucking problem ,,
please dont touch that car u need call mecanics ..

sk8aboijosh says:

sounds like it has no compression

zsmh102 says:

It. Sounds like no compresion.

daniel davis says:

no compression! over heated??? blown gasket??? warped head??? compression
rings??? new engine= piece of mind!

flaga85 says:

100% valve broken

Jordan Greene says:

Yea, you’ve got next to no compression. Sounds like my engine without plugs
in it. Have you fixed it yet?

Christian Fox says:

well im pretty sure its the head gasket cuz i can see oil seeping out under
the head, but the car runs good and doesnt smoke so that is what is
throwing me of. but it looks like it is leeking where the head block and
timing cover all come together. I have alway done my own work on my
vehicles just never done a head gasket and wasnt sure how long it would
take me and if there is any thing to be cautious about. like to you have to
reset the time and i guess there is a certain sequence and torque

Richard Pearson says:

So I checked the DI Coil and bought new plugs and it was still a no start
situation. What happened was there was still no compression because I was
an idiot and bent the valves. I did not set the timing correctly. So I
bought a new head and everything should be ok this time…I hope Good luck
on the head gasket replacement! remember to set the timing correctly haha

soho1080 says:

Hey! Dude, this sounds like a Crank but no Start Situation.. Think it’s a
Faulty Direct Ignition Cassete..Assuming your fuel pump/relay are all
good.. Replace the spark plugs too while you’re at it.. All the best.. Let
me know.. im about to replace my Head gasket too.. a mechanic told me it’s
leaking..
