REPLACING GAS STRUTS ON YOUR CAR HOOD (APPLIES TO MOST MODELS, PORSCHE USED FOR DEMO)

AFTER HAVING THE FRUNK OF OUR 911 HIT ME IN THE HEAD A FEW TIMES, I DECIDED TO REPLACE THE GAS STRUTS. THE DEALER PRICE WAS PRETTY HIGH SO CURT AND I DECIDED TO DO IT OURSELVES! AFTER LOOKING UP THE MAKE AND MODEL ON AMAZON WE FOUND THE RIGHT PARTS FOR THIS 2013 PORSCHE 911 4S CABRIOLET. 5 MINUTES LATER IT WAS DONE! WE HAVE LINKS BELOW TO THESE PARTICULAR STRUTS AS WELL AS THE STRUTS FOR OUR JAGUAR AS WE REPLACED THOSE TOO!

For your convenience you can use this link to purchase the struts while helping support our channel.

5:35 I used needle nose vice grip on opposing side of (old strut) at open height at max rated extension of hood, then min compression of vice grip with painter tape on vice grip on new strut move to other side and swap out other = 1 man job.

My dealer quoted $195 plus labor. Labor is $175 so $400 for my porsche.

While I have no opinion on how greasy anyone’s balls should be, I found this video very helpful. Two things to add. One, if you lean on or touch lots of things when you work (like me) throw a cover on the fender. Two, if you can’t turn the strut ends by hand with them loose, put the bottom ball in, then use a two-handed grip to adjust the top socket to fit over the ball. Changed mine in about ten minutes after watching you guys. Thanks!

I have a 2017 991.2 and my hood just hit me in the head. Awesome job. It was still under warranty and Porsche said it was ok. I tried many years ago on a 944 by myself and had no idea you can not compress the strut. Great job and love your jokes too.
