►If your Porsche 996 911’s crank position sensor starts to go bad, it will be readily apparent with several failure signs. On the Porsche 996 911 and the Porsche 987 Boxster, the ECU uses the crank position sensor to determine timing and fuel injection. If you’re experiencing misfires, rough idle, hard start, or no start, it’s worth first looking at if your crank position sensor is to blame.
In this DIY, Michael Hidalgo, one of FCP Euro’s Customer Experience Associates, walks us through the incredibly simple step-by-step process of replacing your crank position sensor at home in your garage or driveway.

Can the engine still run when these go bad? Mine 2003 996 suddenly died when pulling up to a stop sign today and would restart but ran very very ruff. Seems like the drivers side bank is just not firing.
Your sensor came out incredibly easy! Mine is locked in right. Any advice on getting it free. I've tried pulling by hand, but can't get the right angle for solid grip; small prybar and wd40. No luck.
My friend, do you have a mobile phone number on which I can communicate with you?
Will the 997.1 be the same as in this 996 video? I'm guessing not, but have to ask.
Great video pro
