How to Inspect your Porsche 911 CIS Airbox Fix Leaks & Install a Pop Off Valve Project Airkult EP23

In this episode, I’ll show you how to tear down, inspect, and repair your Porsche 911 CIS Airbox. I’ll show you how to take everything off your airbox to get down to the part itself, show you where the airbox fails, how to repair the cracks better than the factory, and install a pop-off valve to prevent it from happening again in the future.

The factory airbox relies on the threads of machine screws in plastic, which strip out causing air leaks which can lead to poor running CIS systems. I will be replacing these fasteners with nuts and bolts with washers to provide compression to the two airbox halves, and be sealing up the crack with an adhesive suitable to ABS. I’ll also show you how to install the pop off valve using a hole saw, dremel tool, and some JB Weld PlasticWeld epoxy.

Shoot me any questions if you have them.

About: Join me as I stumble along rebuilding the drivetrain of my 77 Porsche 911S. To be honest, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve never owned an aircooled car before this one, there’s a huge learning curve, and I’ve been avoiding this since I bought the car years ago. I can’t afford to pay 911 prices on things, so I’ll be doing as much of the work myself as possible.

Thanks for watching and please share any thoughts or comments you have!

A really good liquid sealant is HondaBond. The only thing that keeps my '71 Super Beetle leak free.

Roger Johnson says:

Loctite plastic epoxy is okay, but 3M Panel Bond is the new new henceforth. This is what binds together the fabric so the universe rumored to be able to repair the most broken of relationships as well.

Andy Jenks says:

Another great video and perfect timing. I took my SC motor out last weekend and I will be inspecting the CIS system tomorrow!

"It rapidly snowballed" LOL I love that… too true.

I would suggest using an acid brush to apply the epoxy next time. much easier to get an even coat and get it in the cracks
